Well, if memory serves, treatment by leach, literally placing leaches onto a host to (I guess???) “draw off ill humors” from the corpus, or some such nonsense, was at one time the pinnacle of the medical discipline in the late 18th/early 9th centuries.
My hazy memory also seems to recall an actual POTUS falling victim to and expir from this strange treatment, but without the Dr. Farell’s incredible recall of historical data, I’m afraid I cannot remember which President this befell to, or if it even afflicted multiple members of the Executive branch!!
