Biden Makes Surprise Visit to Kyiv, Ukraine - LIVE Breaking News Coverage

Dear Justa, it’s always good to read your take on all matters Giza.

I wanted to check something out with you, if I may.

Background: I don’t manage land professionally – thank God you’re here. But I do like to look at maps. I feel so much more secure, when I know the “where” of things. I am the granddaughter of Irish farmers, so I remember maps in the house, and being shown the relationship between a map and the land, and the people, the crops, the animals – and human treks and voyages, including our own. Geography is like a person to me. I don’t know how to think clearly, without feeling the specific “geo-characters” that pertain to a given topic. I develop narratives and probably fill in blanks myself, where I should submit them more often, as open questions.

So what?
After reading your comment here, I found East Palestine on the map. I sought the county of East Palestine: Columbiana. Then I looked at the Presidential Election “results,” reported by CNN for 2020. I don’t know precisely why the President is in the Ukraine, and not tending to our people in Ohio.

But I found this:

Thank you, Alicia xo

Like most flyover country, the bulk of Ohio are independent conservatives, whether they work for the local factory, sell retail at a mall, or own their own business. I am from Middletown, Ohio where the new senator, JD Vance, lived and about which he wrote the book Hillbilly Eligy. (My father was from a tiny town near Wheeling, WV- a coal mining town on the Ohio River. My mother from a small town in SE Ohio, also on the River. They met at U. Cincinnati Medical School). We called the Hillbillies BriarHoppers- primarily from the hills and “hollers” of Kentucky who came to work in the steel and paper mills. All those industries are now gone and Vance tells the painful story of growing up in the poverty of deindustrialiized towns in middle America where people turn to drugs and alcohol. He was lucky to have had a caring grandmother who encouraged him to get out of the loop- he went to Yale Law School.

Yes, no surprise, then, that President Trump went to East Palestine because his people are there. The truth is, however, if you looked at an accurate map of the 2020 election, you would find the majority of rural areas across the nation, even California, were Trump votes. They probably still are. No one else has attempted to represent them in the last century. While few know the actual number, it is far more likely that Trump won every state except NY.

Biden really doesn’t care. This is not his country.

Oh, and @DrAliciaHill, I am the great granddaughter of Welsh farmers (great grand dad had gaelic written on the side of his barn on the Ohio River) and German farmers from Indiana. I am definitely the throwback to these stalwarts!
