Here is an interesting discussion of the region with regard to construction in the area with pictures before and after the collapse. I am aware of the sloppiness in engineering by Chinese in the Philippines which makes me wonder if this might be a cause in the tragedy. One wonders if the existence of a portal in Nepal in this area might also have significance.

The video which was posted initially showing fire bursting from bottom right of the dam in the video, which is where transformormers, capacitors and other electrical plant is sometimes located near the turbines, which may also have failed if the structure on the dammed reservoir failed for sure.
