About that noisy cat

I saw this recently and I’m still laughing!

That cat isn’t the noisy one —

That harsh squawk of that yelling woman would sure go on anyone’s nerves, let alone those of any poor cat (or any other animal) unlucky to be within yelling or smacking distance… (we’ve actually seen women like that, yelling at, and manhandling, and yanking and smacking cats and dogs – so that piece, unfortunately drove back home, into our imaginations, some memories of those harsh women…)

ABSOLUTELY Loved It!!!

I certainly am not condoning any cruelty to animals!

Ah yes … Curiosity killed the cat
Satisfaction brought it back.

I know you’re not condoning animal cruelty –

This one just got to me, as I’m rather sensitive to “soundscapes” (and the title hooked me, as I am a cat lover), and have also become quite fascinated (perhaps in no small way, thanks to your book “Microcosm and Medium”) with the phenomenon of “Affektenlehre” – that is, the effect of a soundscape on one’s inner psyche.

Most people, they look at a harmless AI-enhanced video clip, like the one you posted, and look at the visuals, and can see some humour.

Me, on the other hand, a person who loves cats (and all animals) – what do I see, and what do I hear?
Not you condoning animal cruelty – but what I see is a woman (similar to harsh women I’ve come across) whacking at a cat for what? For opening his or her mouth and for using his or her voice? And I hear the woman yelling at the cat for the crime of using voice. If one closes one’s eyes, and just listens to the woman, to the “soundscape” of the video, one can “hear” something in her tone – and then observe the “Affekt” of that harsh tone on one’s inner psyche.

I’ve seen such behaviour in people, using that tone of voice and also whacking at animals for the crimes of using their voices, which they do to try express, to convey, something to the human being in front of them.

And, I’ve become sensitive to that ever moreso, as our politics (as a macrocosm of this phenomenon, what is portrayed in that harmless video) now is in the realm of silencing the human voice. Only we get whacked with speech laws (and in some countries with far worse) – laws that prohibit one from using one’s voice. Punishments for humans using their voices are perhaps even more severe than getting whacked or yelled at.

I listened to the soundscape, and found it to be reflective of something that has been on and in my mind for some time – the phenomenon of voice and voicings and the effects of voice.

I offer my thoughts not as criticism, but more from the perspective from someone who is very sensitive to soundscape, a kind of sharing of how someone can experience this kind of “artistry” completely differently from someone else who might find humour in the imagery. (I find myself reacting in similar fashion to modern documentaries that are using spooky music to enhance their points – leaving someone feeling abjectly miserable after seeing the documentary or movie – I can no longer view anything with that kind of soundscape).
