Take research funds given to universities as “donations”.
For example, the number one company now is Nvidia.
Whenever they made their donations to universities; administration would charge overhead and fees, thus reducing the donation’s impact on actual research.
Now companies are switching from cash donations to other forms; like Nvidia, giving actual computer hardware in development, to get research university students to use this hardware in their respective fields - thus engineering new markets for their new hardware chips.
Don’t worry, university administrations will find a way to game this as well.
After all, USSA education is all about administration overhead and fees.
