Ahriman's Dimension has arrived - Reporter tests Apple's new Vision Pro goggles

At least you can take the headset off when you’re feeling a bit too propagandised…

How long before it becomes mandatory to keep it firmly attached for your own “safety”?

The word “evil” by itself may require more than merely pruning. Angramainyu is simply the Negative principle( or, poison-of-God if you will), and Ormuzd the Positive, and each has its hierarchy.
As for the “Magic Eightball”, which has NOTHING to do with the original ideas and philosophy behind Ahriman, some of these followers of Steiner( who most likely have never read anything by him) may just need to listen to an actual contemporary living professor( one who professes).
Sigh.

What ridiculous shortsightedness! Almost breathtaking.

I’m not sure I understand your comment. The commercial use case for this device is to convince people to buy an item that will be used to tag items with curated data. Inevitably, that means advertising. So, people will, yet again, spend hundreds or more on a device designed to allow them to see cool advertising so they can be the first to see it. And the money train will roll on.

Obviously, the totalitarian implementations exist. Police and other government officials will have access to more specialised data. But they already do. As noted above, the only difference here is the speed with which it can be accessed.

Is there something I missed, or some other reason that should have me running about in circles waving my hands in the air? I wouldn’t like to suffer your stern finger wagging disappointment under a false assumption.

I think the implications of what this will do to human psychological, physical and moral states seems to be glossed over in your viewpoint. I don’t think this will be just a gadget people pick up and put down or put away. It seems like the end of the primacy of what we currently accept as human existence in the real world…

I saw a poll today that should the most interested people in these devices are in China and India (general public was polled, not tecchies). I can see why, if you live in a crowded and often dystopian world, being able to leave it while sitting on your sofa is highly attractive. Like all technology, I don’t think this is evil in and of itself. It could be wonderful for the severely disabled and elderly who want to “travel” or “get away” from a rather boring life in a nursing home (I have a friend with a PHD level brain stuck in one for decades because her mind works but her body doesn’t). But it is that third “reality” that concerns me. On the one hand, as an older person with mobility issues, I could enjoy a few hours immersed in the fantasy of being a Dragon Rider on Pern or Walking along the indise of the Grand Canyon. But there is going to be a temptation for many people, to simply want to live there. Becky Chambers exlored this problem in some of her fantasy/Sci-Fi books, including people so addicted they go to illegal dark rooms, hook up to the machine until they pass away. That will be extreme (some people almost do that already with on-line gaming) but in a world where daily life sucks or is very constrained (again think modern China) getting away from it all in three deminsions will be highly appealing. Especially in five to ten years when the technology is no longer a heavy and expensive headset, but perhaps a nice hat/helmet with cushions inside and it automtically ajusts for eye problems. It may even have taste-o-vision/feel-o-vision built into it, after studying ways to trick the brain into feeling or experiencing those sensations. The cheaper models may not even come with a “current reality” option or it will be an option. If a person wants to, they can just sit or lie down and visit any number of “Universes” or places on earth for hours at a time. What a great way to ignore the fact you live in a tiny room in a “worker’s dorm” sharing a kitchen with 40 people. Which was a real building proposed to be built in Dublin Ireland but thankfully not given planning permission. It was called “co-housing,”…

yep, and just think of the porn addiction issues, right?

Think of the propaganda issues, if people start plugging in for their daily dose called News - wholesale manufacturing of very convincing immersive movies to suit narratives, whether its battlefield, or fake politician soundbites, fake B-roll of anything and everything to suit the govt line on whatever…

Think of how people are totally immersed in their fake reality shows and social media issues NOW, and imagine it as an immersive experience…

I’m 100% positive there will be new iterations of all the worst ills we know of with electronic devices, things we haven’t even grasped or conceived of yet, and I’m just as sure it’s going to be an “in” or “out” kind of world - there will be no halfway. You either live enmeshed or join a community that rejects it which will be viewed the way we view the Amish today. They will preserve our humanity and may be tolerated for doing so for awhile, but for how long…
