If you are interested in Crowley’s influence on society you have to look even further back to the Western Hermetic movement of the late 1800s.
Crowley founded Thelema yes, but his entire worldview was beholden to the Golden Dawn and in particular, middle ages Kabbalah and correspondences, somewhat neo Platonist.

His motto for the group he founded, the Astron Argon is ‘the Method of Science, the Aim of Religion’
To work through all of our programming to become fully holistic and integrated beings in harmony with the Universe, and most importantly to meet and ‘converse’ with our Higher Self , or Holy Guardian Angel.
What the Greeks called our Daimon.
Adding that when one studies the curriculum of the above order, one notes that this is also a theistic religion. One can use concepts like Pan or Babalon as Universal archetypes but ultimately the goal is to cross the ‘Abyss’ after meeting ones Higher Self, and NEGATE one’s ego and unite with God.
That is why Yoga is studied and practised as well.
Anyone who refuses to spill ‘his last drop of blood into the cup of babalon’ (to renounce the ego and selfishness) is a Black Brother and will be trapped into their next incarnation.

What most people do not understand is that “the dark” and “the light” work with the exact same tools to get to their goals. There are several techniques (you can also call them rituals) that work with the universal given forces. Electricity, polarity, male, female, black sun, white sun and much more. They all are available for every stream of conciousness. What we do with them is our individual task and Karma.
Some are born to sweet delight, some are born to endless night ;))))
