Prescott Bush

Three sets of archives spell out Prescott Bush’s involvement. All three are readily available, thanks to the efficient US archive system and a helpful and dedicated staff at both the Library of Congress in Washington and the National Archives at the University of Maryland.

The first set of files, the Harriman papers in the Library of Congress, show that Prescott Bush was a director and shareholder of a number of companies involved with Thyssen.

The second set of papers, which are in the National Archives, are contained in vesting order number 248 which records the seizure of the company assets. What these files show is that on October 20 1942 the alien property custodian seized the assets of the UBC, of which Prescott Bush was a director. Having gone through the books of the bank, further seizures were made against two affiliates, the Holland-American Trading Corporation and the Seamless Steel Equipment Corporation. By November, the Silesian-American Company, another of Prescott Bush’s ventures, had also been seized.

The third set of documents, also at the National Archives, are contained in the files on IG Farben, who was prosecuted for war crimes.

A report issued by the Office of Alien Property Custodian in 1942 stated of the companies that “since 1939, these (steel and mining) properties have been in possession of and have been operated by the German government and have undoubtedly been of considerable assistance to that country’s war effort”

Enjoy!

Thanks. Am currently reading David De Jong’s Nazi Billionaires book that explains the cooperation of Germany’s appropriation of Jewish owned businesses. They had to be sensitive about those with affiliates in the US.
Rather ruthless and down right theft.
The demonization of Jews seems to be a convenient ruse for many agendas, especially for financial gain. (Ironic Jews are being accused of same today, maybe pay back?)
Slave labor definitely lowers the cost of doing business when a government contract is awarded, even allowing for the required political contributions. Ug and the wheel keeps on turning…with the descendants’ relatives and same playbook.

Just finished reading The Order of the Day by Eric Vuillard in the middle of Billionaires. He puts you right there with them while deals were done. His take on the Austrian invasion versus the movie theatre version is hoot. Evidently the caravan had multiple mishaps getting there and he has Hitler’s car stuck in traffic. Don’t know if it’s true, but telling.

I love Memory Hole! They have such good films & they tend to publish one per day. Great info, thanks for posting this!

Amazing what goes on on your own town. When I lived there I remember reading the “society news” in the Houston Chronicle about this family. Always hosting or attending this and that charity event.

Bush was at 2 of my uncle’s parties in Kemah in 1961ish, along with von Braun, Debus & Apollo astronauts. Grissom & buddies were drunk the day before & capsized their boat & my Dad & brother fished them out of the water near Port Haven marina. I was just a little girl but I remember it clearly, esp. asking my Mom why “those men” talked so funny (German). She nearly had a fit…“Don’t you dare say a word about that to anyone.”

Small world, looks like your Mom may have been familiar with Operation Paperclip. I wonder how many of the second and third generation descendants know their immigration history?

Oh yeah she knew! She was also the one who later told me that Nazis had far more advanced weapons that we were never told about.

Bedtime for me. Have a good one.

BTW, I meant to say MERCURY 'nauts; was thinking about Grissom & capsule fire. (It was a really long day on Sunday. Will be same today…Tired…)

In Normandy this June, I was lucky hostess to George Webb, metadata analyst cum intrepid citizen journalist. Had no idea–well I mostly avoided the D-day celebrations chez my in-laws, until this year. 78 years later we’re sending billions to the Azov nation. We saw an untouched German bunker on Sword beach from whence, with Juno Beach, one might surmise the Paperclip hordes were shipped to the Netherlands as blood was shed on the Western beaches…
Further south we saw the fields that hosted Azov tanks. Was this to eliminate unfortunate witnesses from the Eastern front? :face_with_monocle::flushed:

The whole German Nazi theme is a cauldron in history, one of those ideas that seems to have turned cancerous.
