CAF mentioned she was enjoying the 1883 series, (you can view it on the Paramount+ app, by CBS. I did the trial just to see what it was like. I found it disturbing.
It starts out with smallpox killing the family of one of the main characters. (Timely?)
It has an endless series of violence and rape, or near rape, which seems gratuitous.
One woman commits suicide as the last family member of hers is shot. The message is conveyed that she has nothing else to live for, and it is noble of her to off herself. (Seriously? ) Good message during C 19…!!! OMG Maybe she could write a book? who knows what she might have contributed. She was not even very old.
You have to watch ads with messages that are incredibly disturbing in their messaging! maybe I am just out of touch with TV!!!
Alternatively, there is a great story told in a recent film, taking place around the same time:
“ The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford ”. It lays out all sorts of interesting details of life during that time, and the psychology of outlaws, their victims, and the fragility of our human societies.
I kept thinking after watching it how Mr Globaloney et al are rewarding and cultivating Robert Ford types. Weak…lost, without integrity.
Beautiful images, music. And good acting. Here’s a trailer:
