Amtrak stopped for over 29 hours

What caught my attention to this story is when the passengers started calling the police to help them they were told the police can not do anything for Amtrak railroads are federal property which is out of their jurisdiction. This is what I heard early in the morning on TV on the Business Insider. Passengers thought they were being held hostage.

Wow, that does sound like a difficult situation.

Don’t know where the train was stopped at, but as long as people were able to disembark the train if they so chose to do so and it wasn’t in the middle of nowhere somewhere where there were no roads or taxis, then that would mean that they were not really being held hostage.

That is surprising that the police said they could do nothing because the rail line is under federal jurisdiction, what a useless response.

The combination of transportation issues all at once means we have NO IDEA what they were up to.

@Bahri I wasn’t sure what they meant when they said they stopped in the middle of the woods waiting for new crew to access the train, At any rate this is Denmark, SC’s Amtrak station.

@Bahri Here’s a good one when it comes to jurisdiction.

There is nothing good about that story, nose blue.

In the video they say they wouldn’t even let people off the train for their pets who they didn’t bring along litter boxes for, so they really were being held hostage!

29 hours isn’t too long to be on a train though, I’ve taken the Empire Builder from Seattle to Chicago that’s 45 hours.

One time I was on an Amtrak train in Oregon that stopped just to wait for the passenger bus to make it to the station, which was delayed because a truck full of apples crashed in the snow and they had to take a detour to the station.

This was generous that they waited for that so passengers didn’t have to wait in the snow storm at night at the platform for the bus (I was one of the passengers transferring there), but I was kind of surprised they kept the whole train stopped just for the few passengers that were disembarking for the bus there.
