An Imminent Gas/Fuel Shock Within Weeks

Not sure who’s been following this oil shortage story, but despite this interview being on a gold channel, it provides a /GREAT/ summation of how we got to this point: from Iran war through the DELIBERATE (not botched) foibles with our strategic energy reserved, right up to today where the oil prices have been obviously pushed to the down side using manipulations of futures markets to hide all of the malfeasance from conventional price discovery.

We’re staring down an 1970’s Oil Shock within possibly weeks. We are in big big trouble regarding potential gasoline shortages, diesel rationing, and MAJOR price increases coming.

Personally, I’m beginning to assemble a prep list. Problem being, I’m not a very adept or skilled “prepper”. Other than stock piling gasoline into regular 5 gallon plastic jugs, and the idea of using a spare vehicle as 30 gallon drum I can store fuel in and siphon it out as needed, I don’t have a very effective prep strategy.

Anyone else thinking of making plans for fuel shortages and rationing? If so, would be keen to hear your thoughts.

While I am concerned with the price of diesel here in the UK (nearly £10 per gallon!) I am more concerned about prepping for food shortages.

It’s really too late to get in to the prepping game, but here’s a few things to keep in mind:

Be careful where you store the 5 gallon jugs… Wouldn’t keep it inside unless in an outbuilding. Hopefully ventilated to some degree. If stored in the garage along with a car you’ll have a fuel source AND an ignition source. It happens…

It’s good to have a store of fuel if possible, but practically I’d mostly keep it for generators. You’d drive through 60 gallons in a few weeks and that would tough to store…still, you can buy plastic 55 gallon jugs and a small pump if you’ve got the space.

Specific foods will go up in price first. I’d buy those in bulk. Rice is a big one that’ll become scarce first (a billion Asians can’t be wrong) Typically, most rice is contaminated with arsenic from the field. Basmati rice from India and I think Pakistan have the least amount. It stores well (decades). Put the bag in a freezer for 3 days before storing it to kill the weevils then get food-grade 5 gallon buckets and dry ice. Drop a chunk of dry ice in the bucket and let it gas for a few min then pour the rice and close the lid. The carbon dioxide will push out the oxygen and rice will stay fresh.

Beans, bullets, and band-aids is what they say…Water is the most important…a gallon a day for each person minimum. Agree with ShadowNet…this is an attack on food and a LONGTERM problem. Whatever food you get, make sure it will keep and that you rotate it. Acidic foods like tomatoes will burn through the can and waste.

If you don’t already have something with which to defend your home…now’s the time. If guns are a problem, I’d get a spear, or many. They are an underestimated crowd control weapon.

Ton of stuff I’m leaving out. Get this stuff before you MUST. You don’t want to be in the middle of a grocery store fighting it out at the last minute. I like to quote the wise words of “Ol’ Remus” formerly of the Woodpile report:

Don’t forget to stock canned goods and a good can opener. Even if unheated the food is nourishment and easy to prepare!

Forgot to mention medicines, prescriptions…get those filled beforehand for months in advance if possible.

Strong pain medication if you can get it. Difficult now in the states. Easy to overdose on Tylenol and ibuprofen if someone gets injured and nothing else available.

…and a comment on bugging out. Having a bug-out bag with essentials is a good idea, but keep it light. Should be used to get you home for the most part. Home will likely be the safest place and one should try to stay there as long as possible. Once you leave the house, your resources will be extremely limited (can’t carry much) and you’d be reduced to refugee/outsider status most everywhere.

A bicycle for mobility, water and a big bag of rice. All three are affordable and easy to use.

… in terms of weapons … one would need to think in terms of long, medium, and close range. I recommend some version of the M-1. I am biased in that this was my father’s preferred weapon and therefore the weapon I was taught to use. Maintenance of the M-1 is pretty simple. It is a light weapon that packs a good punch. Be sure you know how to safely store your ammunition. Scout your area for defensive positions. Locate sources of water that could be accessed should your stored clean supply run out. Water purification tablets … again in case your stored water runs out. There are a number of good military manuals available containing information on a number of vital topics. In the archive.org search bar type in “prepping”. There are an amazing number of helpful readings to be found there.
Alcohol - both for drinking and sterilizing.

… P-38 can opener. You can easily carry one on your key ring or utility belt. They are small, inexpensive and available. Be sure to have multiples of them on hand. You’ll find that they have a thousand and one uses.

AND trading…cigarettes are another good one to stock for that purpose.

Molotove cocktails for groups of marauders (yes it will eventually come to that guys). Shotguns are cheap. Try to choose a weapon that will have common ammo. There will be lots of it lying around on the ground when things go hot. .22 is a good caliber for hunting small game (which will be a thing) and it’s light weight. Try carrying a .45 with four boxes of ammo around for a day… It’s got great knockdown value but also high wear-you-out detriments

Also, those water straws work well for emergencies. They also sell a nice set of hanging water filtration bags for under 20 bucks.

When it gets real…sleep will become a luxury. Sleeping in shifts would be essential. Two-way radios for monitoring as cell service will be an “if”. There’s a reason ‘they’ tried to take the Ham license away years ago…

Ouch! Don’t think I could self-terminate… but once society comes to that point I’d bet just saying some nasty stuff about Israel or the local potentate will result in the firing squad (or something similar) beating a path to your door.

The Muslim ‘faith’ incentivizes such actions by offering “x” amount of virgins (while supplies last) to impressionable young lads upon a successful ‘outing’

Have a relative save your metaphorical reciept though. I’ve heard Allah, though ostensibly all powerful, has a problem in his accounting department …

This year was going to be the start of my prepping, but in April I had a house fire. So all my resources are going into rebuilding while I stay with my parents. I hope it won’t be too late to start come next year.

I’ve been where you are Uchuchu. Hope you’re able to sort it out soon.

After the elections things will start going downhill in earnest (humble opinion). They’re hiding as much as can be hid until then. Try and put what you can aside now to get the best price. Even if it’s only a little bit.

There was an article about Exxon’s out of commission diesel plant in Illinois where they mentioned it would be in Exxon’s best interest to stall repairs in bringing it back on line, as the resulting cut in supply raises prices further for the diesel produced at their other plants, increasing profitability for them.
