… yes, me giving you permission to murder me is a tricky situation. but … Its early in the morning so I am not at my Swiftian Best … but what the hell … let’s get the ball rolling. The Church can kick off the Great Euthanasia Campaign starting with every old, decrepit Pope (JP II probably would have been an early qualifier), member of the Curia, Bishop, Archbishop, Priest, Nun, and Deacon they can find. This Great Euthanasia Campaign would of course include members of their immediate family. NO EXCEPTIONS CULTURAL OR OTHERWISE!
Since The Church apparently has recently shown its willingness for rapprochement with Darwin and make the shift toward an Evolutionary WorldView then The Great Euthanasia Campaign would be in accordance in that this would be a wonderful “voluntary” removal of a large amount of genetic material obviously not suited for self preservation and survival.
The Church should welcome this as it would also instantly create another level of bureaucracy. Imagine Committee after Committee and hearing after hearing seeking the determination of one’s Euthanasia Status. I would imagine that this would create an incredible amount of work for “Canon Lawyers” in the rewrite of Canon Law. I wonder what the “hourly billing rate” is for a “Canon Lawyer”. I would be very careful in submitting my “billable hours” to God.
This would also be an opportunity for The Church to affirm its “Green Position”. The bodies could be processed into human consumable edible food products for the poor and immigrants. Now, I know what you are thinking … some of the bodies might have diseases that would prohibit them from becoming edible food products safe for human consumption. But wait, if we can “clean” treated Data Center water and make it potable, then surely any body, no matter how diseased, can be processed so that it is safe for human consumption. We should just sit back, trust the science and feed the poor and immigrants. But Ok, let’s say there are bodies that can not be processed into food. Not a problem. Grind the bodies down and used them for fertilizer.
The Church could also score a few points with the “world is overpopulated” crowd. Population is being decreased. … and here is a bonus … Every euthanized member of The Church creates a new space and resources for an immigrant.
