Another pipeline attack

The Druzhba pipeline, which originates in Russia and serves Germany with oil, was attacked in poland this morning. It will be easier to fix than Nord Stream because the attack happened on land but the attack has made it perfectly clear that things are heating up, no one is backing down. The sheer size of this pipeline will hamper repair but at least it is on land. This is one of those cases where before anything can be done at all a massive fire has to be put out.

Well the pipeline has been on operation since the early sixties and the means friendship.
The “Druzhba” means “friendship”, alluding to the fact that the pipeline supplied oil to the energy-hungry western regions of the Soviet Union, to its “fraternal socialist allies” in the former Soviet bloc, and to western Europe. Today, it is the largest principal artery for the transportation of Russian (and Kazakh) oil across Europe.

Lest we forget Germany’s Nazi occupation of Poland during WWII and the mass killing and imprisonment of their population. Many of the victim’s relatives and friends have not forgotten and see a chance to return the “favors”.

Poles historically are not vengeful people. This is not a payback time for German Nazi atrocities in Poland. Its more about what’s going on in EU right now. Germany still would like to treat their Eastern neighbors (including most of the Balkans), like their slaves and are not happy about raising economic and over all emancipation of these countries. Most of the Western and far Eastern Europeans (Russians) are accustomed to the thinking, that there is only room for strong Germany and Russia in the European land mass and there is nothing between them. Things are changing and former unHolly Alliance participants better get used to the changes.

Poles are human and subject to manipulation, especially with a history like theirs. Revenge or justification in one’s mind, it is a useful tool. There is hardly ever a one cause for events.
