Pluralism should NOT be allowed as the easy out in this case. If Henotheism he should be called the holder of The Friedrich Schelling Chair at The Vatican. If Kathenotheism then he should be called the holder of The Max Müller Chair at The Vatican. If Equitheism then he should be called the holder of The Axel Michaels Chair at The Vatican. I do think that the First Commandment - “You shall have no other gods before me.” - does not allow for the “beside me” option.
Let us think about this for a moment … Which is worse? … for a Pope to have “worked” with Hitler and running Rat Lines or to be the Pope that “promoted” all other gods to the same level as God? … or one could think of it another way … the Pope who demoted God to the level of all other gods. Difficult to speak about Catholic beliefs of any kind now isn’t it? Is the Eastern Orthodox Church going along with this? If not, now would be a great time for The Eastern Orthodox to go on a recruiting campaign.
Some one should interview the Theologian of Prefecture of the Papal Household. As best I can tell the position is still held by Fr. Wojciech Giertych, O.P. He should be called upon to provide Theological Clarity in this situation and at the least defend The Church’s Papal position on The Church’s “New Pluralism” or whatever one wants to call this.
