Balloons were too much to handle ... and they want to protect us from "UFOs"? ... maybe they should start with battery driven "toys"

Itā€™s amazing how so many drones can fly around undetected these days even in war situations. With all the technological advances in tracking, just about anything that moves on the land, in the air, and on/under water can be monitored. Drones have been around for quite some time now, yet they are virtually undetectable? Iā€™ve no doubt that some, at least, are being allowed to go their merry way so they can be ā€˜studiedā€™ and some are designed using the KISS method.

ā€¦ for the time being let us stay with the situation as presented ā€¦

You, the MIC, say you can not defend against or bring down battery driven toys (about which it is claimed we know everything) referred to collectively as ā€œdronesā€.

You, the MIC, say you can (with adequate funding) defend us against an unknown (about which you claim we know next to nothing) referred to collectively as ā€œUFOsā€.

There appears to be a problem here

Iā€™m not privvy to current day data. But the problem with RADAR detecting drones is they are small and have a small signature (radar return). Probably not much different than a few birds flying together. So RADAR systems may detectā€¦get a signal back from the droneā€¦but there are ā€˜noise filtersā€™ in place to prevent alerting on every group of bugs and birds that fly by. If you loosen up the filters to the level it would be necessary to detect/track drones youā€™re constantly chasing ghosts. Donā€™t want to scramble $100M+ jets to go intercept a flock of birds. And if the intercept WAS a droneā€¦itā€™s so small the weapons onboard the aircraft canā€™t lock on to destroy it. Itā€™s a problem of small scaleā€¦not sensing ability.

So if a UFO is cloaked RADAR wouldnā€™t be able to spot it anyway?

Describe the cloaking technology and maybe I can answer. If there were easy/practical cloaking tech in the mainstream aerospace sector they would be using it. But they donā€™t.

ā€¦ so if they canā€™t be ā€œseenā€ or ā€œdetectedā€ ā€¦ but, yet they say there are ā€œswarms of dronesā€, ā€¦ If the objects can not be ā€œseenā€ or ā€œdetectedā€ one wonders how they are able to make the identification as ā€œdronesā€.

Likely they are detected visually and by sound by personnel on the ground. Perhaps by the pilots. This happened several months back and they relocated the F-22 aircraft to another base. The biggest risk is ingesting one into an engine (which are $50M+) and putting the aircraft at risk. Other than thatā€¦theyā€™re just a nuisance. Itā€™s highly doubtful there is any useful signal or photo intelligence to be gotten over Langley.

ā€¦ so a few ā€œdronesā€ required the movement of F-22s? ā€¦ Hmmmm ā€¦ the state of our flak must be sad indeed if unable to drop a few ā€œdronesā€ ā€¦ or for that matter a balloon. This seems absurd.

Langley includes:

480th Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance Wing

The 480 ISR Wing operates and maintains the Air Force Distributed Common Ground System, or DCGS, also known as the ā€œSentinelā€ weapon system, conducting imagery, cryptologic, and measurement and signatures intelligence activities.
The Wing is composed of the following units worldwide:

480th ISR Group, Fort Gordon, Ga.
497th ISR Group, Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Va.
548th ISR Group, Beale Air Force Base, Calif.
692nd ISR Group, Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii
693rd ISR Group, Ramstein Air Base, Germany
694th ISR Group, Osan Air Base, South Korea

and

363d Intelligence, Surveillance, & Reconnaissance Wing

The 363d ISR Wing is the targeting production, special operations ISR and full-spectrum analytical support to the tactical warfighter. The wing provides operations, planning and execution support to major commands and theater air and space operation centers. It provides geospatial and comprehensive threat analysis products to units employing airpower worldwide.

Iā€™m WAY beyond worry at this pointā€¦ Iā€™m well into anxiety, the blues, anger, frustration, disbelief, incredulity (as per my Nefarium News today) &c &c.
