Battle of Tariffs

Tariffs tax the poor. So Trump can cut taxes on the rich.
Trump is just rebranding globalization; albeit, in a USSA oligarchical style.

I haven’t checked the news for the last 25 minutes so I might not be up to date.

Did orange man bad blink?

Here in the UK back in the 80’s we used to have a gameshow called ‘play your cards right’ where the studio audience would shout “higher” or “lower” to try to get across a row of giant playing cards.

The last few days kind of felt familiar :joy:

I don’t know how many times I have to say no to that concept.

Let’s get the Whitney Webb equation out of this. Try to imagine a POSITIVE world where trade was on an equal playing field. How many of my clothes in the past 5 years carries a made in Viet Nam tag. Yeah. Those women were paid handsomely for sitting at those machines. RIGHT. Can we start to talk about how to make this trade on a much more equal playing field??? Their workers get paid and we start recreating an industry here…

… time for a little speculation … Yep, now we know what the “Vietnam War”, the “opening of China” and the “Fall of the Wall” were really about. There was even a movie made about this “One, Two Three” (1961) with James Cagney. Also remember the scene in Dr. Strangelove where Cap. Mandrake needs to get change for a call to the President … remember to whom Col. Guano told Cap. Mandrake he would have to answer …

Colonialism via the Corporation.

I think it works like this … We feel bad for “ruining” whatever country we recently MIC’d (Military Industrial Complexed - shorthand for War), so we get lots of money together (both public and private) in order to help them “rebuild” (think markets in Europe after WWII, this works equally well for natural disasters think the Clintons and Haiti). We were probably not so much angry with the Red Russkies about the forcing of their Communist / Marxist ideology at bayonet point but that their control of Eastern Europe kept us out of those markets. Oh yeah, and lets make sure as much of that “infrastructure rebuilding” (think of USAID as the non shooting version of this) money as possible gets kick backed to us. We fund some folks there to be “the future” the “business builders” who create the work / enslavement systems in those countries. We get paid and we have plausible deniability for the slavery stuff. Pretty slick … Now think Iraq, Afghanistan, Ukraine … same old playbook … just move the war around. Oh, and since in these processes we used up all that MIC material we now also have to funnel huge amounts of money into the MIC to restock and for R&D. After all, don’t we always have to think of newer and better ways to kill. … Woo Hoooo! Everybody wins! Wait, isn’t economic colonialism just as bad as military (and I’m using that term very broadly) enforced colonialism? Just asking for a friend …

Trump ALWAYS begins negotiation by asking for impossible terms. Then by clever negotiation terms are whittled down to the core of what he wants or will settle for which is to bring jobs back to America. All that will take years to achieve. Therefore, he must first dismantle the Deep State and put people in his administration that will actually change rules and policies that the Deep State relies on to stay in power. Simply put threats to dramatically increase tariffs are just another starting point which he knows will be whittled down.

Bringing jobs back into America was a main goal in his first administration but Russia Gate sidelined his agenda. This time he filled his Administration will those who are not beholden to the Deep State. Of course, not all his objectives will be fulfilled in the short run, but it is a start. The other main problem is the whole ‘WOKE GENERATION’. It will be important to see how that can be turned around.

Right now they are using the military to take out the drug cartels. They decided that drone warfare is not too good for these criminals. Truth is, these cartels are actually deep state funded military operations to kill Americans with drugs, violence, etc. The MIC is the Deep State so by taking out their funding, they are in a panic. Since Wall Street is 10% of the people with 88% of the money, by kicking them in the pocket (big shock- same people), many of them are now crippled unable to cover their short positions. Trump increasing funding to the military is for taking out the criminals who have kept us enslaved. They just SEEM like aliens because they are not like us (or me, anyway. I give a crap about my fellow man and animal).

U.S. products produced in China, with dirt cheap Chinese labor gets 2% tarriff.
The elites should have kept the jobs in the USA, and the technology.
The elites gave up on the USA, and sold their country out for Big Buck$.

No restrictions on transnational corporations shipping goods from China
back into the USA. The transnationals have 10 million Chinese workers for the transnational corporations, Cheap labor = HUGE profits.
And no tariffs[2% at most].

And to think. Those of us in the anti-Vietnam War contingent were incessantly told what disloyal, craven apologists for the Commies we were, because we said Vietnam was all for the corporations to make a killing. We were dumb dupes, evil anti-soldier people, etc. etc. I still remember how mad I was the first time I saw a “made in Vietnam” label on a garment in an upscale suburban women’s store. “For this, 59,000 American soldiers died,” I thought.

(yeah, I know, it wasn’t just that, but that was a great part of it)

Some of us are still angry about killing my high school friends, either in body or just in spirit, calling it a Vietnam CONFLICT.

Understand. My brother, who served, but in intelligence not infantry and early in the war, felt guilty for how much worse the later draftees had it than him.

I used to read Wilfrid Owen’s poetry and listen to Benjamin Britten’s War Requiem and cry - my brother’s friends thought I was one crazy teenage girl. I didn’t understand I must have been tuning in to the chaos. “And half the seed of Europe one by one,” talking about the old men who send young people to die …

Also like to add the the Vietnam thread.
A big part of that theatre was The Golden Triangle.
Which moved from the Indo China theatre to Afghanistan.
DRUGS = Gold
A great non-fiction short work on this is:
TDY by Douglas Valentine.
It tells the story through the eyes of an actual soldier, caught in the middle of that Drug War;
between the Military & CIA - in the Golden Triangle.
An eye-opener.

Yes, I haven’t read that book but am aware of the drug connection. But, as I’m sure you can understand, after I was an adult, I never mentioned things like that to my brother, out of respect that he had been somewhere being shot at, even if it was for evil men’s designs & actions, and I have not been so far.

My husband - who I didn’t know at the time - told me he was glad for complicated reasons never to have been drafted, because he said he would surely have been killed by friendly fire.

Never have talked about Gary Webb or his San Jose Mercury News stories about how drugs came to South Central LA either, because people are too comfortable believing the mainstream narratives about why the inner city has been devastated by drugs. It’s always easier to blame the little guy or gal, than face the reality of corruption at the top.

As I said on another thread, it is the MIC who profit in child and drug trafficking that is protected by the SeeEyeAye who train and support “cartels”. I had a friend who was a drug dealer at one point in my life and when he was in Vietnam, he stuffed body bags with drugs that were then unloaded on state-side before they were put into caskets. He had no problem later, then, working with some very sketchy people who were former military/police who moved “stuff” out of South America and into Yourami. The feds finally caught up with him once he had “retired”. I got out of South Florida simply because I was going to end up in a helicopter falling out of the sky, or whatever. Trust me. I never looked back! Learning exercises can be dangerous if you don’t catch on to what is coming.
