Biology teacher calls it quits due to student phone addiction

Those with phones in school are goners.
There’s an old Star Trek TNG episode in which the crew gets hold of a wearable AI product and become ‘addicted’; don’t remember if it was a Borg plot, or what. If anyone finds a snippet from that episode, please post it.

It is by design. It is coming from the school themselves. Currently, for my children to be in a club or do a sport they have to download an app to their phone that tells them what time practice is and other events. The schedule is no longer even listed on the school websites. The sports physicals are also in the process of being downloaded to an app. So, this requires that each student have a smart phone that can assess the app that list the times and the plays and other info needed for each sport or club. If the student does not have a cellphone, then basically they are in the process of being eliminated from full participation.

It is so sad. And, it uses are tax money.

And, yes, the cell phones are then causing addiction.

I have new parents come into clinic, and they don’t know how many times their newborn has eaten, voided, or stooled in the past 24 hours without looking at their cell phone. It is as if a part of their brain or memory is being taken by the smartphone.

@JFYates That sounds downright frightening and I also agree it’s by design.

I even hear from employers that ‘young people won’t work’ because they’re busy with their phones all day. When one has kids, it’s much, much harder. Problem is, employers don’t like hiring older people either (who don’t look at their phones all day). I’m fortunate in that I have health benefits and can afford to work by contract and able to get jobs. In defense of younger people, there are many, I think, who were misled into certain college studies that did them no good whatsoever in preparing them for the workforce, or career of any kind. Also by design.
