Birchers Stop Con-Con in Montana!

Alan Lackey, The John Birch Society coordinator out of Montana, explained how hard Big Sky Birchers worked to help legislators understand why a Con-Con is a bad idea. Senators said they heard “a tremendous amount of opposition,” Lackey said.

“One Ravalli County member,” said Lackey, “literally wore out shoe leather going into businesses, restaurants, stores, malls, where ever people gathered to hand out information, share contact information of legislators and sign a petition. He got 240 signatures which were presented to the senate committee.”

Kalispell JBS members sent out educational packets via snail mail to all 150 legislators before the session began. The packets included The New American magazine’s “Article V Convention: Will It Work?” special report, and several pamphlets on the issue. Furthermore, members from all across the state, including those in the Great Falls chapter, also emailed and called their legislators, asking them to vote against bills related to calling for an Article V Convention. Furthermore, members showed others how to use the .gov website to send email blasts related to the Con-Con bill. It was a full-court press. And it worked.

However, Lackey was careful that all credit doesn’t go to human efforts. “I think prayer had a lot to do with it,” he said. “Prayer energizes.”
