Contemplating Putin from this somber perspective – one of defeat, exhaustion, and gasping for breath – evokes the image of him losing someone crucial or experiencing a high-profile defection. This is, in my opinion, the very situation Putin cannot tolerate: treason. Treason and self-interest, after all, is the driving force of the dark and brooding cult of Baal.
