California to fund state produced insulin

you may have noticed that there is an undeclared competition between Florida and California with respect to leading the nation in leading the nation. sin my view Florida is mostly winning but in this case California is taking on pharma. that is a win for the golden state.

“The state plans to direct $50 million towards funding an insulin manufacturing facility in California, while the other $50 million will be spent to cover the cost of developing the drug.”

“Nothing epitomized market failures more than the cost of insulin,” the Democratic governor said in a video announcement posted to his Twitter page. “California is now taking matters into its own hands…we know people should not go into debt to receive life-saving medication.”

California used to be the most pro health state in the country. Now they need to make insulin?

I’m all for loosening Big Pharma’s grip on medicine, yet the idea that Newsom is doing anything out of a desire to help people or in order to take on Big Pharma is, for me, hard to believe. I think it’s a political ploy to help avoid a Democratic rout in the midterms. That said, I’m happy if a manufacturing facility actually gets built and supplies insulin to people who need it but can’t afford it; hopefully, that will happen, and the money won’t get frittered away on graft and corruption.

you are right. neither political party has a good record on taming the pharma beast and newsome made a good move to show some effort, precisely because it is an obvious vulnerability.

The government will fail at the pharmacy manufacturing business. The degree of failure is what it will cost the “taxpayer” whoever he is, 90% of Californians don’t pay federal income tax. Drugs are dangerous and I’d pass on govt drugs. No profit no accountability no liability you drink it!!! It won’t be cheaper. Americans at all levels of our economic ladder are fully invested in the pharmacy industry! Govt contracts plus every 401k, and pension plan, fund, etc… is totally committed to the profits from the pharmacy industry, including California state workers! By competing against them, what are you saying to your pensioners, old retirees etc?, 60% of the DOW profits come from the medical industry, 40% of the “value of the market” is medical industry firms, your all nuts! Kill the beast fueling your entire engine??? Government entry into a profitable business is never good, and even govt doing a service like mfg a medicine that’s not profitable for its citizens has a huge cost benefit associated with it, very tough decisions that ultimately are about spending other folks money at gunpoint. It’s futile … the way you totalitarian selfish morality nut jobs go about rationalizing your positions is insane. Gizadeathstar should be attractive to educated sound folks reasonably logical and not totally misinformed, who seek more information they can’t get elsewhere but, gizadeathstar isn’t even close to that and I ponder wtf? Is wrong with people? Media a fraud, got you here, now you spen 100% of your energy cooing over fraud articles from parts unknown lol lol lol no wonder disclosure is not in the cards for us…
