In The Netherlands we have a rather large gasfield in Groningen a province way up north next to Germany. The people in that province after protest managed to slow down the production because of earthquakes. Their houses are being destroyed by these earthquakes. And unlike Alaska were the citizens get compansated that is not happening for the people in Groningen. The province of Groningen is the richest because of it gas but the province itself is the most poor. There is not much economic growth in that area. Not much has been invested. They took the gas but gave nothing in return they only got earthquakes.
After years and years of protest and negotiations the production went down and it has been down for about 3 years now.
But last month the gasproduction is up again in Groningen. But the gas is not for The Netherlands, that gas will go to Germany.
At the same time the Netherlands is importing gas from Norway, Russia, UK and the Middle East.
That Dutch gas went cheap to Italy while at the same time we payed more for the Norway gas. What a weird construction it is. In the meantime the gasprice has doubled here but we had so much gas we did not even need to import it in the first place if we did not sell it for the cheap.
In the meantime my energybill has doubled while at the same time i turned down the heating 2 degrees in my house to reduce the cost.
Just like food and water, a warm house is a basic for survival. The EU is playing a dangerous game and the citizens suffer because of it.
Here is a link to google images were you can see an overview of the houses in Groningen that are being damaged because of the earthquakes.
