CAN WE REALLY AFFORD THOSE DATA CENTERS?

Originally published at: https://gizadeathstar.com/2025/10/can-we-really-afford-those-data-centers/

You may have noticed something lately. Or rather, you may have noticed the distinct lack of something lately, namely, the lack of screaming (and now completely irrelevant) Swedish girls bellering and hollering about climate change. You may also have noticed the distinct lack of media attention to sky-rocketing electric bills and energy costs, particularly in connection to…

I think we are in the final metabolic stage of the technocratic civilization.

Even if the energy-financial ponzi sceme burst, I feel a lot of harm has been done to nature and humans. What has that mimic unatural overlay ushered in? I don’t think humanity on the whole was/is ready to engage timelessness in any shape or form nor in Gods and or the fake overlay realms. A lot of healing and repairs need to be done!

Maybe another reason why Baal Gates bought so much farmland --reduce food supply while increasing datacentre supply. Never seen a strategy that aimed at only one outcome. Where has all the water gone? It is shifting the Earth's access by 31.5 inches per year. Yet another inflection point issue between humanity and technology as well as the discussed polar shift

I never thought about this angle of Chinese Dragon eating its own tail. Let me borrow from your vocabulary dr. Farrell" you may be onto something…"
with my extension to your original thought: maybe, just maybe that American AI race is our current equivalent of Reagan Star Wars ruse, this time directed at China?

Yes…With all the many stories and articles out there about why artificial intelligence will NOT work, this scenario of a “rope a dope” increasingly makes sense to me… appear to push and pour resources into it, get the opponents to do the same, then pull the plug… there’s much, however, to argue against this scenario, but for the moment, I at least have it as one of the speculations that might be in play…

… yet we still pour vast sums of money into “going to Mars”. Sound familiar? Fill in the blank

into “going to ________” … “land” on the Moon, build SDI, build out AI, dig wells for clean water in Africa, funding Operation Warped Speedos (think about it), fund welfare recipient and illegal immigrant breeding farms, fund Intelligence Services drug and gun running, fund AI for children’s cancer research (it is always for the children isn’'t it?) , fund furry transvestite Operas in some - slovakia or -istan, fund The Great Society LBJ! LBJ! LBJ!, it just never ends. … but we can hope THIS all ends soon. Comet fragments … nukes … vaccines … At this point I do not think we should be choosy … Sling "Em!

Love the warped speedos nomenclature there Scarmoge lol

I think my age comes into this kind of thinking - I’m almost 73, and slowly but surely all the previously working systems that make up my physical reality, namely my body, in all it’s now less than optimal functioning regions (not dead yet of course…hernia op now scheduled for Oct 20, and all the necessary tests for this have me in very good shape) - but I kinda run a daily question re ‘all that is happening’ around us; I wander intellectually between thinking hard re all the (fairly obviously true) ‘conspiracy’ stuff, with all of its deep state machinations, materialist science and culture and a feeling that there is a certain amount of unforeseen ‘ghost in the machine’ type stuff, especially in terms of technological ‘development’, including biological realms, AI, energy in all forms (new plasma stuff included), as well as electronic communications and all of its concomitant and expensive physical hardware. For those who know Cliff High, you may be familiar with his ontological view of cosmology, with the ‘purpose’ that drives the Universe being the creation of novelty…new and unpredictable events that the ‘creator’ could neither predict nor anticipate. Using that template as a metaphor for all the stuff going on right now, I can see a lot of randomness in the effects, seemingly uncontrolled, and very unpredictable, across a wide range of spectrums. I see a lot of unpredictable stuff happening re AI, and I agree with all that JPF writes above, in his usual brilliant connecting and speculative manner. Ponzi scheme financial shenanigans…happy to go with that hidden schemes scenario. But a small but growing part of me feels that there is a lot of random factors too…it gets mentioned in the vid chats sometimes how a lot of us are experiencing less than the once (not long ago) normal efficiencies of electronic communications platforms of all kinds that are not as stable as they were…inefficiencies of scale perhaps? Or maybe a few ‘ghosts’ in there somewhere. Aliens and plasmas of all kinds may be hovering and watching too…a whole new realm of ‘unforeseen’ circumstances and outcomes there lol! I don’t have a quantitative take on just how much of that unpredictability dominates my thinking, but it just feels like it is growing…a feeling that despite all that we do know -our capacity to measure stuff etc - there is just so much we might not know, and that the influence of such unknowns is perhaps becoming a little bit larger in terms of an overarching big picture approach. And while I am aware of some of the spiritual and theological ideas that might be relevant here, I am really only talking about observable physical effects, including weather events along with all the tech implications. Despite all else, my understanding is that pretty much all pc coded languages still contain fragments of whatever original code they may be derived from, and the ghost in the machine reference is based on that idea I think. The sort of unforeseen breakdowns or glitches I am referring to fall into that category, though the potential effects cover the totality of human experience. It’s the whole unpredictability factor that makes being alive both exhilarating and scary at the same time

Humans are in effect open systems (to use an IT term), AI will always be a closed system, Humans enjoy an epistemological advantage through subjective experiences, which technological systems cannot experience. AI must rely on human descriptions and definitions of such experiences, or rely on self learning based on these inputs. This is one such limitation which makes for AI being a closed system.

The book you recommended, “Ideas Have Consequences” by Richard M. Weaver, which I’m reading now, predictably explains the craziness we are seeing with the beginning at the 13th century.

Oddly enough, in my area, Gates backed out of a planned data center. A different company moved in, since Ohio is a state in which regulations against harm to humans or nature are considered inconvenient nonsense, hampering the free actions of amazing, perfect billionaires.

Larry Ellison scares me more than Baal - I thought no one could top eugenics, but Ellison wants a prison state.

… glad you decided to take a look. There were many, like Weaver, from the 1920s to the middle 1970s that were very prescient. I find it disturbing that even if they created a little stir in their time they were quickly and conveniently forgotten. I guess it is the curse of even being a couple of decades ahead of your time. Today those authors are only known to us “conspiracy analysts” - (phrase courtesy of G. Gordon).

Ironically seems the censorship Weaver critiqued was invoked on those exposing, explaining and how the end result of such thinking turns out. Though he wrote during a more conservative era, liberalism had already overtaken the culture. I saw it in the 70’s during my few years attending college. My advisor as a political science major was a conservative but left the academic environment not long after. The sociology and psychology instructors, biology and literature instructors were all lefties or what we now call progressives.
