I realize that some do not like Tabor but since I listen to most everyone, I’m posting this here for others as well. The one thing I DO agree with him on is that The Revelation was likely written well before 90-100AD, which is the timeframe generally claimed.
Wow, just wow. Thanks for sharing.
I like having information, whether I agree with it or not and I know a lot of people do not.
Baldwin, former Zionist. One more out of the fray…
@Sal2lee
Before you get too Wowed by Tabor, please notice by his statements, he is likely not a Christian, as given by mainline definition. He doesn’t seem quite brave enough to come out and rail against Christianity but his lack of belief is not well hidden either. Why destroy ones own livelihood? The fact is, Tabor makes just as many assumptions as the ones he accuses of making assumptions. His words and writings have to be parsed very carefully, else, it can be sophisticated garbage.
The reason I have interest in some of what he says about The Revelation is because other church leaders have said something similar. For instance, some say that the book was added later as an ‘inspirational’ letter, others, a prophetic guide with regard to 70AD temple destruction. I tend in many ways to agree with both because numerous churchmen in the past have discussed these possibilities. The century old family Bible I have contains the words ‘Jesus Christ, etc…’ in brackets; in The Revelation only, indicating the addition of a sentence or phrase, or the assumption of that addition. I have never found this in any of the others books.
I just wanted to let you know that I’m not denouncing anything but trying to clarify and give food for thought. (My brain on Bible study = Dizzy!
)
@Marcusmojo00
Indeed, it very well could be The Olivet Discourse. I can’t listen to Baldwin for long though. “Mount SIGH’-knee-eye”?
Do you think the book of revelation discusses the Cosmic war? Do you think it outlines the supposed Treaty of Versaille Dr F has outlined in the Cosmic War?
I am assuming you have read The Cosmic War.
The Cosmic War is one of my favorites, as is Dr.'s Versailles hypothesis.
I tend to consider The Revelation in a more historical fashion but there are areas which might lack ‘earthly’ explanation. I think CW is possible. Nobody ‘knows’ for certain what the entirety of The Revelation means (without a shadow of a doubt), which makes it so fascinating and so dangerous.
@thebeaver thank you so much for your insight. The assumption this was written as an after thought or as you said …. It tends to resinate with me when reading Revelations. I am aware of his work after researching him and I in no way denounce my beliefs. I do find it fascinating when reading Revelations with out “Jesus” inserted it, I felt it was more intent with the message. Honestly it blew my mind reading Tabor’s pdf.
@Sal2lee I just get the vibe that he profits from people whose beliefs he doesn’t share and I sense a sort of resentment. Maybe it’s just me, IDK.
I might ask it in a vidchat as there are Enuma Elish overtones in the Revelation.
Curious as to what you found so mind-blowing?
@Marcusmojo00
I would certainly like to hear what Dr. has to say. I know he does not like Tabor. He gave a short explanation once but was very general.
Interesting you notice Enuma Elish as Paul, IMO, tended toward Babylonian interpretations of things and some references to what’s given in Revelation can be found in Corinthians and Thessalonians. Just IMO.
I am not bothered about Tabor, but I keep sensing a link between the CW and the book of revelation, watch this space.
I always watch that space.
@thebeaver Mind blowing to me is this….how he explains the reading and how smoothly it reads.
“ A Pre-Christian Version of the Book of Revelation
Based on the Revised Standard Version
This edited version of the book of Revelation was produced by simply removing the obvious “Christian” references, most of which appear to be structurally added to an earlier version that was more reflective of a general Jewish apocalyptic eschatology such as that reflected in the Dead Sea Scrolls or other late 2nd Temple period texts of this genre. In most cases the text read naturally and smoothly without these elements and requires minimal editing to stand alone. The ideas and motifs of this version are heavily dependent on the various eschatological texts of the Hebrew Bible, particularly the books of Daniel, Isaiah, and Zechariah. Some scholars have associated such a version of this text with a figure like John the Baptizer (Yochanan haMatvil). Accordingly, the name of the Seer as John/Yochanan has been left intact. The name YHVH/Jehovah has been inserted in places where the use of the Greek word “Lord” (kurios) is clearly the Divine Name. Otherwise “Lord” in this text is taken as the Hebrew word ‘Adon (see Zechariah 4:14).”

Yes, I understand that and do have a copy of his info.
I think this is a better talk with Pastor Baldwin. I don’t like his use of the word ‘divorce’ but do get the picture. Describing The Revelation is a difficult task in any case and he seems to come perilously close to stepping over the line but I understand what he means. Even so, many Christians of Jewish heritage did continue to obey Sabbath and other ‘laws’; Paul wrote extensively on this, in fact, it was a major ordeal in some instances (regarding Gentile believers especially). He makes it sound as if 1st century, they all dropped The Law like a hot potato, not so. Pastor Baldwin needs to rethink this matter. I do not agree with his take on The Millennium. The Revelation is, indeed, about The New Covenant in Christ Jesus and we who truly believe await His Return.
If you’d like to skip the info. on where he lived and moved about, etc., I would suggest you start at min. 13:40.
Kooky as this guy seems, he’s telling you the interpretation that has existed since the Book was first found. Dr. JPF is right. Dispensationalism is the deception and the enemy is playing it for all it’s worth.
