@WuWu This has been in the works for quite some time now. It looks like the gov finally got their way in forcing the CRTC to enforce it. No gov Dept wanted to enforce it because everyone knows its against freedom of speech. This gov like the previous one writes legislation with the idea in mind that if there’s any problem with interperatation of any sort, let the court system rule on it. The previous gov had their fingers slapped by the Supreme Court of Canada for doing just that. Supreme Court judges have always been appointed, which is bad enough, but now are appointed to fill a quota not by merit. Canadian media reports this legislation as a Canadian content issue, nothing else. It will sail through with no problem imo.

Link does not work. 20 characters needed for this reply.

One way or another, all Western governments are going to keep trying to gain full control of the internet. It’s one of Herr Schwab’s latest obsessions, and it was probably the plan from the very beginning of the public internet.

If they can’t to it with legislation, they’ll try to do it with regulations or treaties; if they can’t do it through government measures, they’ll try to do it through the private sector; if they can’t do it legally, they’ll try to do it illegally.

With luck, there will be enough tech-savvy people out there to come up with ways around the future “authorized” internet.

Hmm, is Internet ≡ Media ? I don’t think so.
However, Media may be controlled, even as propagsnda and Agitprop needs to be harshly controlled; the internet NEEDS to be free, and it WAS created as such – for the benefit of, first and foremost, the Intelligence Sector/agencies[ fx why do you think your PC is stamped “Intel Inside”?] .
There are of course people who will inhabit the “safe” corners of the Net( Media, new, old and “alternative”, which is only the new old); there are also, and always will be, those who wlll not only inhabit, but explore, unknown facets of this Web and its denizens, real or artificial, legal or illegal, and report back to the dying savages therefrom.

I think the internet needs to be available everywhere to fulfill its spying, marketing, and propaganda functions. But, personally, I don’t believe expression of opinions and communication between people over the internet will be allowed to remain as free as they were in the past.
