Communism At It’s Finest in Czechoslovakia Pre & Post 1968

Incredible insight of the ravages of totalitarianism on human existence in one of the world’s premier countries. Though written as novel the author brings the reader into the world he experienced in using a unique style of writing weaving philosophical and psychological insight of the characters. Addiction and its euphemisms comes in many flavors; sex, power, control, chemicals, social belonging, almost any human endeavor carried to an extreme…. Dark to light, light to dark…One of the best novels I have come across.

That is a great book.

I also really enjoyed ‘The Notebook’ (NOT the romance. this is a great story of communism and psychology , drama in Hungary) by Agota Kristof

Psychology was a major part for old school historians. Why do humans do the things they do. Divorcing psychology from history to leave only the facts to obtain an “objective” view removed quite a bit of context to make history make sense. I dreaded my college world history class for that very reason. Just remember the names and dates, Ug!
