Cryptocurrency donations to convoy protest can still be tracked, committee

Big brother always knows and what he doesn’t know he’ll invent. That’s how he always works in my opinion.
Here’s a clue as to how financial institutions will cooperate. Note the last sentence.

“Blair Wiley, chief legal officer for Wealthsimple, said his company had one wealth management client whose registered account was frozen for about three days until the RCMP cleared them to unfreeze it. Wiley said the client was not notified the account was frozen.”

This should be everyone’s concern. Typical CBC to frame the narrative as a concern for only one group as if the rest of us can’t figure this out ourselves.

"She said she is also concerned about information the RCMP provided to financial institutions being retained and having a future impact on the relationship between Indigenous protesters and financial institutions.
“We should not be on any lists but I am concerned, yes, that those lists do exist,” she said.

Crypto currencies are about as safe as me leaving a $100 bill on a sidewalk and expecting it to still be there several months later. If its connected to the internet it can be hacked, stolen, frozen or monitored. In this case the crypto folks are asking big brother to guard the doors and windows.

I thought one of the main deals about cryptocurrency is that the blockchain is technically like a public ledger so much easier to track than traditional bank transactions which are not?

In the context of a world with massive fraud and trillions of dollars that have gone missing from the federal government budget how is the U.S. dollar any safer?

The treatment of protestors in Canada (and elsewhere in the Western world) is very sad and should serve as a warning to anyone who still believes our governments give a hoot about such quaint notions as basic civil liberties or human rights. A few individuals within governments do, but overall the institutions don’t.

The root of the problem, in my opinion, is that there’s an almost total loss of respect for the principles on which Western democratic governments were established and a loss of respect for the rule of law.

Any system that circumvents THE GREAT WHORE should be considered- righteous. End of Story.

If you need to leave some cash on a sidewalk and don’t want anyone to steal that, all you need to do is draw a neon yellow circle around the money with chalk and no one will dare touch it:

That wouldn’t work where I live. One of two things would happen:
1 - someone would pick it up and try
to return it.
2 - someone would take the money
with a 50/50 chance they’d try to
find the owner and look for a
reward.
