As for motive only he would know. I think in his position what else could he do except to leave a dead man’s switch to get out of the mess and come clean.
Imagine the state of his mind at this point in his life. Ug. I read he has a new wife and living in rental in Malibu. If he’s serious about rehab one step is admitting and apologizing.
Well, one thing I DO find credible is that he has a whizbang mind and is as together as, say Kissinger. I don’t believe he is more of a tweaker then Bussh the Elder. And thus has the full backing if his faction.
Motive/motives? Alwats tough to suss out.

There is one theory that the older brother actually didn’t die but is the one carrying out all the actual “deals” around the world and then blaming it on his younger, troubled, brother. Given the criminality iin this family, why not? It would explain why Hunter decided to leave the evidence in a computer repair shop.
