Discovered in the ruins of Hippos in the Golan Heights

Discovered in the ruins of Hippos in the Golan Heights a small lead object carried a message from more than two millennia ago.

The object, barely an inch long, was a sling bullet dating back roughly 2,100 years, on its surface someone had carved: “learn your lesson.”

Researchers think it was launched by one of the city’s defenders during a clash in the late second or early first century B.C.E., and the missing portion of the bullet suggests it actually struck a target before ending up in the ground.

I wonder if the lesson was learned it was not important enough to pass the epochs.

… the ancient equivalent of writing messages on shell casings or bombs? I wonder if messages are written on drones.

Slings are great. They are almost as powerful as bullets and you can find ammo on the ground.
I think they must take a lot of practise to use well though in regards to aiming and getting enough power up in the rotation, unlike a rifle which can be used very simply as long as it doesn’t jam.

We had sling shot fights back in the day. We made our own using rubber bands and sliced up inner tubes. Fun times. No one was seriously injured.

I had a great slingshot. got it as a present from a friend of mine back from the USA. with arm-lock and great handle from premium materials (steel, plastic, gum, leather). he boasted it was military. killed in 30 meters. last time I managed to shoot someone who said my mother was a whore on his temple. he flat out for a few seconds. I felt fear in my heart for once, but the deal was done. he recovered in a minute, “learned his lesson”, excused himself about my mother. never used it since… maybe it’s in the cellar at my mother. dunno. weapons can be fun.
