Remember the Holodeck with that late 80s vibe…

Can’t forget that revolutionary The Matrix…

Apparently, these entertaining fictions sort of end up being correct according to the latest conclusions from our “greatest thinkers” as they try to understand the “unseen” realms of the micro and macrocosms through the materialistic, naturalistic and scientific lenses of their eyes, microscopes and telescopes…
However, it’s telling how this also connects to other more metaphysical aspects of our reality…we should not be surprising that many of our “greatest thinkers” also have passions that perhaps expose other realities at play and what really drives or at least colors their approach to reality…one that’s perhaps attached to the ancient pagan groves and altars with their dark gods and pleasures…
Are there a metaphysical “powers” that drive or reality including the materialistic sciences and what is their impact upon our perceptions of the real nature of the universe?
Are we truly “seeing” or are we being led down a path towards a particular end?

Perhaps the real question isn’t whether the universe IS a massive hologram as the latest evidence ranging from the microcosm end of the spectrum and Planks Wall with the non-locality of sub atomic particles to the macrocosm end with the electric/plasmic nature of galaxies and the dark matter in between…all does seem to point to this and that we’re in a digitized plasmic simulation of sorts…so perhaps the better question is what does that mean for consciousness and existence?
Isn’t this really the age old question that the ancients were trying to answer and that now we’re still trying to answer with all our scientific progress?
Who are we and why are we here?
Perhaps 4 approaches using an instructive moment in space/time at the famous Areopagus:
- Agnosticism/The Skeptic: ok…so it’s all a mirage…then it’s all a mystery and you can’t really know anything…question everything and accept nothing…an Apophatic approach…life is unknowable so be cynical and discourage all who seek to “know” and make sense of it…God is unknowable at best and a deceiver or trickster at worst…like the Architect in The Matrix…

- Antinomianistism/The Epicurean: ok…so it’s all a mirage…then let’s eat, drink and be marry for tomorrow we die…or in our modern vernacular…sex, drugs and rock-n-roll…a form of neo-Platonic/Gnostic moral dualism where all physical matter is evil and all spiritual non-matter is good and they are “non-connected” so “do as thou wilt shall be the whole of the law” as Crowley put it…or as the Darwinist might say “it’s the survival of the fittest”…or to drive it to it’s logical conclusion “it’s the God is dead and the Triumph of the will” of the Nietzscheian Reich’s weltanschauung flavor…

- Acceptance/The Stoic:ok…so it’s all a mirage…then let’s hope for the best and make the best of it by working to be a good person…it’s all fate and there’s nothing you can do about it so just accept it…develop a worldview that doesn’t hurt others and get on with life…plant a garden…raise a family…do your job…go fishing…try not to make trouble…don’t get too worked up about anything…it just doesn’t really matter in the end…

- Awe/The Worshipper: ok…so it’s all a mirage…then who created the mirage and why…it appears that our reality we’ve been placed within is but a shadow of a larger and more grand reality…our micro/macrocosm is situated within a greater metacosm…our lower dimension is superseded by a higher dimension…as above, so below in some sense…it brings one to a place of humility and wonder at the intricate immenseness of it all and of the truly infinite and amazIng Mind behind it…not the evil Architect, but the loving Creator…and the only logical and reasonable and rational response is one of worship…

Note the Pauline connection using physical spacial dimensions to describe spiritual realities…it’s the scriptural version of understanding the true as above, so below:
And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God. Ephesians 3:18-19
