“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.”
– Holy Bible: Matthew 24:42
There is an increasing awareness among the people of the world, from all different religious backgrounds and faiths, that we might be living in the prophesied End Times. If you are in doubt, please have a look at the following End Times Signs so that you may ascertain that the End Times are not just approaching but it is already here, and therefore, looking for the prophesied Saviour would be a duty upon every God-conscious sincere truth seeker. The End Times; the hour; the last days; doomsday; eschaton; these are all different titles for a time period described in several world religions (both Abrahamic and non-Abrahamic) when the world reaches a final stage in which evil prevails over good, and a World Saviour appears.
In Judaism, the term “end of days” refers to the Messianic Age, during which the righteous will be resurrected and the Mashiach appears to finally save the Jewish people. In Christianity, the End Times is depicted as a period of tribulations which precedes the second coming of Jesus Christ who will face off against the Antichrist and usher in the Kingdom of God. In Islam, the End Times is when the Antichrist Dajjal appears and is defeated by the Mahdi who fills the Earth with justice and equity as it was filled with oppression and tyranny. In Hinduism, the End Times depicts a period when Kalki, the last incarnation of Vishnu, brings an end to the current strife and discord (the age of Kali Yuga), ushering in an age of righteousness and goodness (the age of Satya Yuga). In Buddhism, the Buddha predicted that there will come an age of turmoil where his teachings would be forgotten and unworked with.
A bodhisattva named Maitreya will appear and rediscover the teaching of dharma ushering in a new golden age. Maitreya appears in an age of degeneration of human society, a period of greed, poverty, ill will, violence, murder, impiety, physical weakness, and societal collapse.
The list goes on and on. Prophets and Messengers of different religions and faiths have always left signs and clues about the End Times. These clues have often been cryptic and impossible to understand, and for thousands of years, these signs have remained as so.
The list goes on and on. Prophets and Messengers of different religions and faiths have always left signs and clues about the End Times. These clues have often been cryptic and impossible to understand, and for thousands of years these signs have remained as so.
Only in the last hundred years, in our modern world, have these signs begun to make sense, as we quickly see them come to pass, one after the other. The world has suddenly and rapidly spun out of control. The environment is collapsing. Wars, famine, and natural disasters are wreaking havoc on the people. And morality and spirituality are at an all-time low. Is it all just a big coincidence? There is no such thing as coincidence. The state of the world today was predestined and prophesied many centuries ago. The events of recent history prove that we are living in the end of days.
Even though we can find different End Times signs across the world religions, the major signs for the End Times are pretty much the same in all of them. Take a look at the following fulfilled End Times signs.
Natural disasters
One of the most common End Times signs in all of the world religions is the deterioration of the state of the planet. Natural disasters will increase in number and bring about mass destruction.
Prophet Muhammad (pbuhahf) said: “Lightnings/Thunders will increase when the Hour approaches, so much so that a man would ask, “Who was struck this morning?” So they would answer him saying, “So and so”
– 250 Signs, Muhammad Ali Tabatabaei, 1st ed., p.162, hadith 185 (online book)
– Musnad Ahmad, v.18, p.163, hadith 11620
“There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars. On the earth, nations will be in anguish and perplexity at the roaring and tossing of the sea. People will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken. At that time they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.”
– Holy Bible: Luke 21:25-28
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres confirmed, “the number of natural disasters has nearly quadrupled since 1970.” To give you a better idea of the rate of increase of the events, consider this: Since 1900, more than 9,000 natural disasters have been registered; Of these, 80% have occurred over the last 30 years. That statistic is staggering.
Are the seas roaring? Yes. Hundreds of thousands of people are being wiped out by Tsunamis and floods, and the people are fearing what is happening to this planet.
According to a 2021 BBC report, “The number of weather-related disasters to hit the world has increased five-fold over the past 50 years, says the World Meteorological Organization…” (source)
Scientists believe the uptick in natural disasters has been brought on by global climate change. As temperatures have risen across the globe, natural disasters related to weather and water extremes have risen as well.
“In the 50 years between 1970 and 2019, there were more than 11,000 such disasters, according to a new atlas from the WMO that charts the scale of these events.”
The Bible also states that in the End Times, earthquakes will appear “in diverse places.” (Holy Bible: Matthew 24:7). The evidence clearly shows that earthquakes are not only increasing in frequency but also appearing in different locations as predicted by the Bible. Some of the deadliest quakes of the past decade struck Nepal, Peru, Pakistan, China, Indonesia and Chile. History shows that the number of earthquakes remained fairly constant until the 1950s – averaging between two and four per decade. But this statistic has been steadily increasing every decade since. Take a look at the following records for example. New Zealand felt a record 32,000 earthquakes in 2016. We had a millennium’s worth of earthquakes in just 2 years during 2014 and 2015. Big earthquakes have doubled in 2014 compared to each year since 1979 (source). There was a global surge in great earthquakes between 2004 – 2014 (source) . And as of June 2019, statistics show around 3,353 earthquakes happening a month. The current graphs and statistics show a shocking worldwide trend of earthquakes becoming stronger and more frequent
Wars
One of the key signs of the end of days is the increase of wars on the planet. In Buddhism, Maitreya, the saviour who comes in the End Times to restore and teach the pure teachings of Gautama Buddha, comes in age when mankind wars with itself and bloodshed becomes widely spread. Also in the Bible it is written,
“You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom.”
– Holy Bible: Matthew 24:6-7
According to narrations, Prophet Muhammad (pbuhahf) described modern warfare when he spoke of End Times signs. He (pbuhahf) said,
“…the iron will run on the air’s back, and fire will be rained upon them, and the people of Earth will die, five from seven”
– 250 Signs, Muhammad Ali Tabatabaei, 1st ed., p.161, hadith 181 (online book)
In various religions, it is described that conflicts, chaos, murder, and war will involve the whole earth in the End Times. And who can deny that this prophecy has, indeed, come true? Someone might argue that war is not a sign of the End Times because there have always been wars since the beginning of time. But what is different about this age we are living in is the frequency and intensity of wars, which have reached shocking unprecedented levels. If we examine the past 100 years, it is clear that the scope of war has changed dramatically. During the 20th century alone, more people have been killed as a result of war than all the previous centuries combined. Today there are wars taking place all around the world (Source) , and not just regional wars like the case was before the 20th century. In 2011, armed conflicts have significantly increased all around the world (Source).
Imam Ali (pbuh) said: “And indeed the atom will burn the world”.
And he (pbuh) said: “Indeed there will be fire from the atom”
– 250 Signs, Muhammad Ali Tabatabaei, p.161, no. 182 (online book)
This is a clear reference to nuclear weapons, which have only existed in recent history. The devastation of these weapons is just as Imam Ali (pbuh) described. Less than a century ago, the atomic weapons completely demolished Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
Famine
In today’s world, it is estimated that a person dies of hunger or hunger-related causes every ten seconds. While there is a happy minority which has more than it needs, there are a considerable number of people struggling with the problems of poverty and destitution, despite the possibilities afforded by advanced technology, and even though there is plenty of food in the world for everyone. Millions of people in Africa, Asia, South America and Eastern Europe go hungry every single day. Famines in various places are one of the signs that Jesus (pbuh) mentioned regarding the End Times (Matthew 24:7). Prophet Muhammed, peace be upon him and his family when he described the End Times, he said,
Prophet Muhammad (pbuhahf) said: “…people will suffer severe famine.”
– Sunan Ibn Majah, Book of Tribulations, hadith 4077
In the world today, poverty has reached grave proportions. The last report by UNICEF stated that one in four people of the world’s population lives in “unimaginable suffering and want.” 1.3 billion of the world’s people survive on less than $1 a day. 3 billion people in the world today struggle to survive on $2 a day. Approximately 1.3 billion people lack safe water. 2.6 billion people are without access to adequate sanitation. It is an undoubted fact that starvation around the world is increasing and spreading to levels the world has never witnessed before (Source)
Animal mass extinction
It is written in the Old Testament that the end of days would see a large number of mass animal deaths. This certainly has become a relatively recent phenomenon.
“Hear the word of the Lord, you Israelites, because the Lord has a charge to bring against you who live in the land: “There is no faithfulness, no love, no acknowledgment of God in the land. There is only cursing, lying and murder, stealing and adultery; they break all bounds, and bloodshed follows bloodshed. Because of this the land dries up, and all who live in it waste away; the beasts of the field, the birds in the sky and the fish in the sea are swept away.”
– Holy Bible: Hosea 4:1-3
Throughout history, we have never seen animals dying at such an alarming rate as we see today. In 2018 alone, there have been 190 mass animal death events spread across 50 countries. The earth and seas are so polluted now from man-made chemicals and oil spills, that it seems the animals have little chance for survival. Since 2010, millions of fish have been turning up dead in lakes, rivers, and the sea. Birds have been dropping out of the sky in huge numbers. Honeybees deaths are a crisis the world is currently facing, as up to 50% of bees are dying in today’s world (Source). Unusual animal deaths have been witnessed all around the world. Mass animal die-offs, in the billions, are on the rise (Source)
Plains, trains and automobiles
Prophet Muhammad (pbuhahf) lived nearly fourteen centuries ago. Historical records show that, when the Quran was revealed, society did not have the technology to conduct investigations of the world or the universe. But the prophet (pbuhahf), in the 7th century, revealed several startling truths about the future. These prophecies were puzzling to the people of that period, but today, thanks to the technological advances made within the past two centuries, the words of Ahlulbayt (pbut) are clear and uncannily accurate.
Imam Ali (pbuh) said: “The iron will fly in the air, and iron will walk on iron”
– 250 Signs, Muhammad Ali Tabatabaei, 1st ed., p.146, no.142 (online book)
In 1804, the first full-scale working railway steam locomotive was built in the United Kingdom, moving “iron upon iron”. And on December 17, 1903, the Wright brothers made four brief flights in their first powered aircraft, allowing “iron to fly through the air”.
The Messenger of Allah (pbuhahf) said: “In the end of this nation there will be men who will ride in vehicles until they reach the doors of their mosques…”
– 250 Signs, Muhammad Ali Tabatabaei, 1st ed., p.140, no.129 (online book)
Who, in this day and age, does not travel to their mosque or church by vehicle?
