I have pondered the Golden Lily repatriation theme a time or two. I’m sure trace metal analysis of the bars could tell it’s regional origin.
Trouble is…it came from all over. Silk road commerce for centuries emptied out the gold of the western european nations buying up silks and spices etc.
Truthfully, the common Chinese family who worked for generations to accumulate what Yamashita stole are owed it. But you know they’ll never get it back.
One thought is that they won’t audit Ft Knox because there is MUCH more gold there than we ever had in the beginning (stored prior to WWII, accumulated in trade settlements when our manufacturing base was top of the world etc). Yamashita’s gold was largely captured by the CIA after WWII and went somewhere. Perhaps much of it is stored in Ft Knox and they don’t want to admit it due to demand for repatriation by the Chinese.
