Earth's magnetic North Pole is shifting toward Russia. What does that mean?

This is not a ‘flip’. Important to remember. However, the suns poles DO flip.

The magnetic pole shifts are something that has been known for a number of years, even decades. As stated in the article it can and will affect us in various ways. That the shift has speeded up could be a concern especially if the poles flip. Also, we know Earth has a ‘wobble’.

This could affect our mobile phones, consumer grade GPS systems, and other low-cost systems, but is less likely to affect high grade military gear.

What could be a real concern are the pathways for migratory birds, animals, even fish? If those creatures use magnetic poles as a means to navigate then it could result in larger problems. Someone here ought to do some follow-up research on it since it could be important.

Research into past blogs on ‘bird flu’, migratory patterns, and other points of interest by Dr Farell should be read.

Drift, not shift, and definitely not flip.

Gotcha, yes let us hope and pray it does not ‘flip’ because that would be very bad!

An intriguing quote to ponder, from Jules Verne’s (1865?) book From the Earth to the Moon: (p. 98):

…All we require, in order to attain to such perfection, is the mere trifle of having an axis of rotation less inclined to the plane of its orbit !”…

‘“Hurrah !” roared an energetic voice, “let us unite our efforts, invent the necessary machines, and rectify the earth’s axis !”

A thunder of applause followed this proposal… And, in all probability, if the truth must be told, if the Yankees could only have found a point of application for it, they would have constructed a lever capable of raising the earth and rectifying its axis. It was just this deficiency which baffled these daring mechanicians…

(Reading through that entire book, I did catch myself wondering, how much of it was fiction…)
