Erdogan threatens to declare war on Israel and send military to Gaza in chilling warning. Turkey can “come at any night unexpectedly” .

Here are some of my notes from President Erdogan’s speech (raw notes, haven’t been checked)

According to official figures 1.5 million people were in attendance.

  • Reiterated that Hamas is not a terrorist organisation

  • Called Netanyahu a terrorist

  • Gaza just like any other city of ours, what we thought was an inseparable part (of our nation)

  • There are Gazan martyrs in Chanakkale/Gallipoli (who fought for our nation)

  • They separated us not just geographically but also ideologically

  • Of course I knew that Israel would be frustrated with me for saying Hamas is not a terrorist organisation

  • La Ghaliba illallah, There is no Victor/Winner except Allah

  • Sultan AbdulHamid struggled much for Palestine

  • Look at its history

  • Israel, how did you end up in these lands? You are an invader

  • Turkiye owes you nothing but West owes you much

  • The West comes and visits you, as though they are asking for your forgiveness

  • We know how they abused Sultan Salahuddin at his grave

  • They haven’t forgotten their losses, they remember the conquest of Istanbul

  • There are forces looking to (surreptitiously ) defeat Turkiye

  • They shed crocodile tears for Ukraine when Russia attacked but now they watch Gaza without a care in the world

  • I’m address you O West!

  • Do you want to resurrect the Crusades?

  • You should know that this nation is not dead

  • Know that whatever we were in Libya, in Karabagh (Azerbaijan), that’s what we are in the Middle East!
    (references to Turkiye’s recent military successes)

  • You may find us suddenly one night (at your doorstep, just like that)

  • This nation is ready to make history (once again)

  • The West is most to blame for Gaza, it’s the fault of the West

  • Israel cannot move without them and even if it does, it’ll collapse in three days

  • It’s tragicomic how the West is trying to cover for Israel

  • We know very well that the West and Israel are also behind PKK, YPG, FETO terrorist orgs at our borders

  • We know the games they play, in word they are liberal and democratic

  • Now they are trying to legitimise war crimes

  • Israel is committing war crimes

  • We are going to present you as war criminals to the world

  • The Western leaders aren’t even calling for ceasefire

  • Look at what’s happened, no electricity, no water, no food, no medical supplies, no hospitals, they are operating without anesthesia and in the dark

  • O world, you have become blind

  • Remember how at Davos I said, “you know how to murder”

  • (lists other places that have experienced massacres)

  • Gaza is all of our concern

  • *** We must work together (called on the regional countries to work together with Turkiye)

  • The savagery of Israel…

  • Palestinian resistance will go down in history

  • recited a poem describing faith as a jewel

  • recited another poem about defending with their teeth

Gazans are ready to defend themselves with their teeth.

Are we also ready?

If necessary can we do this? (Can I rely on you to commit to this?)
(Chants of YES, and takbirs can be heard)

  • These despicable people, forcing them out (of their own homes) saying, go to the desert.

  • They also rain bombs on them if they try leaving

  • Gazans are not leaving (pays homage to their bravery)

  • recites another poem, “defolun” get out, begone, beat it!

  • Inshallah we will see those days

  • 75 years of oppression will end

  • The West will one day leave, and Israel will be left all alone, with the people they oppressed for 75 years

  • Rest assured that you will be in need of Turkiye’s help

  • Listen to us, open the doors for aid, open the doors so that we may have a dialogue for peace

  • We believe that a just peace has no losers

  • Talked about a Palestinian reality.

  • It is their right to defend themselves (literally: defending yourselves is as halal for you as your mother’s milk was)

  • UN resolution calling for ceasefire

  • Noted 120 countries that voted yes, and only 12 or 13 that said no. Warned Israel that it is alone.

Finally said that we are saddened by the death of every civilian, and we were saddened by the death of Israel civilians as well, but that Israel has no such concern.

  • They know how to “murder”, this is something they do well! They’re going to pay a high price.

  • Addressed the crowd: I’m humbled by your support for Palestine

It will be important to gauge Erdogan’s follow through on his not-so-veiled threats of military action and who the commander of his actions will be. Recently, he has been more back-room deals than overt military moves.
