I recently watched a video posted here about the plethora of navigable U.S. waterways and how significant they have been for comparatively inexpensive movement of goods. What a contrast to Africa.

Absolutely! Lack of waterways has kept Africa mostly intact, until now.
TPTB want that continent and are taking it.
