I’ve been aware of the debate back and forth on this topic for decades now… One side accuses the other of being pro-Nazi, the other accuses the one of being pro-communist, and on and on it goes. I don’t think we’ll ever know the whole truth because it’s politicized history.
All I can say is, my grandmother was a small child in the Ukraine during collectivization. Her parents were peasant farmers. They died of some disease during the holodomor period, which I strongly suspect was connected to malnutrition. I think there’s reason to believe something bad happened in the post-collectivization Ukraine that caused a lot of people to die.
