It used to give some credibility to info when it came from the government. Those days are gone, the more that is revealed about the character and behavior of government agents and employees.

It enters the realm of reliabiliy of mediums, who may turn up with 70% accuracy. Not knowing which 30% to distrust makes every prediction suspect.
