The original scientific method the ancients used was totally inadequate per F Bacon so he invented a new one used today to our detriment.

Perhaps Bacon’s methodology was merely misunderstood, or not fully grasped; also maybe the Instauratio Magna was originally intended as a 6-part series, of which Novum Organum was to be part II.
Bacon’s work could have been hijacked for maleficent purposes, as many new discoveries have been.
As for explication and alternate theories, the following comes to mind:

Generations rewriting history as it “progressed” leaves much to the imagination and opportunity. Hard to decipher what really happened in the past without access to original sources or speaking to the “inventor “ in person.
