It’s interesting to watch the world-wide meltdown and responses to Mr. Trump’s re-election, and one of these I think might - and I stress, might - be taking place in Germany. That country, it seems, has established it’s own space command, according to this story from 2021 shared by M.D. As the article makes clear, Germany…
All the functions of the US Space Command are still a bit fuzzy to me. There is a US Cyber Command as well. Not sure if CyberCom is a component of Space Command or a separate entity. The ‘Economic’ comment though leads me down a thought path that the planned transition to crypto currencies directly managed/surveilled by Central Banks will need a fast secure means of communication…satellites being an obvious means of doing that. So, will Space Command perform functions for US Treasury? Private Banks? Some new crypto-comm-utility service? Under that scenario would Space Command just monitor / guard threats to the crypto-comm-satellite constellation? Or actually fly those birds as well?
@XSEXCESS Good point about the connection between satellites, space, and currency! If central banking and warfare are moving from Earth-based infrastructure (underwater cables and navies) to space-based infrastructure (satellites), then there needs to be a “space navy” to patrol and surveil the space infrastructure. That would certainly be consistent with the move toward making currencies all-digital. Under that theory, any country that wants to be a major player in the financial system or have a strong national defense is going to need a space force.
@vardas3 Military spending as a way to restart German industry, while giving itself plausible deniability vis-à-vis NATO (“see, we’re doing our share”), makes a lot of sense. It wouldn’t be the first time Germany stimulated its economy via military spending . . . I think there might be a couple more issues lurking in the background: It’s just a hunch, but I think Germany is looking ahead to the day when the European Union (at least in its current form) falls apart, and it wants to retain a position of strength as a more independent nation-state. That requires a credible military. I also wonder whether part of Germany’s motivation is to strengthen itself, in the shorter term, against NATO and the U.S., given the Nordstream affair.
Maybe the German space command serves many purposes, such as non-NATO secure communications with Iran, Russia and China business interests. An independent network for financial transactions and contracts between DEU and prosperous BRICS.
Another words Nazi International have never forgotten their fatherland
It’s their Homeland Security…
