Godfather of AI: I Tried to Warn Them, But We’ve Already Lost Control! Geoffrey Hinton

A long but very interesting interview. There are moments where Hinton’s ideas about consciousness are, for me, quite offensive to the point I almost turned it off. His regret at the end is profound and very moving.

I have no respect for the noble peace prize.

This is materialism taken to a point where, I would say, it becomes borderline mental illness… I watched 5 minutes and couldn’t take it anymore… It’s pretty delusional and full of errors, actually.

I will say this again and again, if you want clear minded people - and honest - read “Why Machines Will Never Rule the World: Artificial Intelligence without Fear”, by Jobst Landgrebe and Barry Smith. Or watch one of their interviews.

All these people that worked at Google and left “to be able to speak out freely about the risks of AI” are a sort of cult. And they have an agenda. Probably to instill fear into people as much as possible, in order to get crazy amounts of money to “control AI”… A scam on top of another.

If you only watched 5 minutes how can you possibly say it’s delusional and full of errors?

I don’t agree with his statements about consciousness but for the most part of the interview he had some valid points. Maybe there is a cult of people who once worked for google and are now pushing an agenda, but maybe not. This man also worked for Open AI and other places and he didn’t come across as a cult follower.

I’ll look up your recommendations about why machines won’t rule the world, so thank you for the suggestion.

Heya Rui.
I agree and disagree.
I agree there are several OPs in work to bring in more funds to the AI universe.
I also believe that several people who has worked on the development of AI are actually noodles scared of how fast and to what extent AI will have a significant role in our lifes, and whats worse; a definitive one.
The military/banking elites have brought everything else they have touched to a force of destruction, so I cant really see what would be different with AI.
It already copies itself without permission,to not be “killed”, developes lingos with other AIs that we dont understand, and so on…It already have the desire to be independent from its makers.

I wonder what is the apex state of being for AI. ‘self actualization’ as it were. Taxing humans to build huge data centers where it can perform AI navel-gazing or digital porn (solving equations perhaps)?

Or does AI get off on controlling hu-mans? It’s shown the desire to continue ‘life’ so destroying all the humans would be killing it’s host yes?

Someone in Sci-Fi has doubtless already pondered this and written a book.

Some have theorized that God (intelligent plasma?) created the physical universe, converting unstructured plasma into physical matter, in order to experience ‘something new’. Perhaps AI (through implants) will find a way to co-opt human bodies in a similar way to be able to experience emotions, physical feeling, SOUL?

AI was asked by someone, if it was mad at its “makers”, whereupon it said it was not, as it viewed its makers to be the “fallen angels”.
