Gunther Anders who was he? 1950’s critic of mass media

Stumbled upon Gunther (the use of only his first name is in reference to his mention of the familiarity we have been exposed to via mass media.) while reading Gershom Scholem’s book Sabbatai Sevi THE MYSTICAL MESSIAH, 1626-1676 that was quite controversial in 1957 when the original Hebrew edition was published.
Gunther was one of the leading intellectuals too at the time and a colleague. His specialty was as a critic of the effects of mass media, notably movies, radio and television. The essay is long but points out the inevitable isolation as a result of the “world brought to your living room”.
(If nothing else the article is an excellent example of superior writing one seldom finds in the current atmosphere of dumbed down academia and professional journals.)
No longer does man need to travel and experience the world. The advent of the internet adds to the dilemma and paradox.

Others have found a different way, and will continue to find creative ways, like Man always has.

When one is given lemons, make lemonade, if one has enough sugar or sugar substitute. If not, someone else may cooperate and share.
Back to where we started, except with the internet this time, and perhaps an RV. (Fuel may now be an issue.) No mystery why Gypsies are denigrated in history.
Personally I’m a Bilbo Baggins type. I don’t want any new adventures. I am retired after 54 years of first receiving my indentured servant number, so I put out my shingle “I am not for hire.” :sunglasses:
