A fine performance here by Pierre Hantai on a reproduction Mietke harpsichord… full and clear sound from that big German sound box. An fine and elegant instrument, and important because Mietke was the builder of many of the harpsichords that JS Bach owned and played.
I could never figure out the difference between, Cembalo, Spinet or Harpsicord, also, what family of instruments do they belong to, percussion or stringed.
Cembalo is just another name for harpsichord. They’re the same instrument. A spinet is a particular configuration (small and sideways) of the soundbox… you can have spinet harpsichords/cembali and spinet clavichords 9which have small sound boxes to begin with)
This was my first “musical” Instrument.
no wonder I never got far in music, It never sounded right.
