The last time I was in it (2018) it did feel like it was in need of refurbishment. I hope they find a willing partner soon.
There does not seem to be anyone interested, its starting to look very dilapidated.
Last time I was there was late 2017 and 2018, can’t remember if I walked by that pub.
No work is happening then it is deteriorating sitting empty?
Had started process to emigrate may be a good idea to do that if I can line up work there could repair this building at least if there is any funding for that.
This was an amazing exhibition there in 2018 at the Bodleian, then was in NYC at The Morgan in 2019.

The Inkling Challenge explained by Douglas Gabriel – with a little help from Rudolph Steiner – in Inklings and Anthroposophy:
Tolkien’s Christmas Poem
In 1936 Tolkien wrote a Christmas poem about the Blessed Virgin Mary titled ‘Noel’ which was published in the school annual for Our Lady’s School, Abingdon. The school was then run by the Sisters of Mercy. This poem was not discovered until some 80 years later. At the time of writing the poem Tolkien was professor of Anglo-Saxon at Oxford University. This poem was published in the school annual a year before publication of The Hobbit.
Noel
Grim was the world and grey last night:
The moon and stars were fled,
The hall was dark without song or light,
The fires were fallen dead.
The wind in the trees was like to the sea,
And over the mountains’ teeth
It whistled bitter-cold and free,
As a sword leapt from its sheath.
The lord of snows upreared his head;
His mantle long and pale
Upon the bitter blast was spread
And hung o’er hill and dale.
The world was blind, the boughs were bent,
All ways and paths were wild:
Then the veil of cloud apart was rent,
And here was born a Child.
The ancient dome of heaven sheer
Was pricked with distant light;
A star came shining white and clear
Alone above the night.
In the dale of dark in that hour of birth
One voice on a sudden sang:
Then all the bells in Heaven and Earth
Together at midnight rang.
Mary sang in this world below:
They heard her song arise
O’er mist and over mountain snow
To the walls of Paradise,
And the tongue of many bells was stirred
in Heaven’s towers to ring
When the voice of mortal maid was heard,
That was mother of Heaven’s King.
Glad is the world and fair this night
With stars about its head,
And the hall is filled with laughter and light,
And fires are burning red.
The bells of Paradise now ring
With bells of Christendom,
And Gloria, Gloria we will sing
That God on earth is come.
CS and JRR were both aware of the direction the world was headed. LOTR was just as much a metaphor as ‘1984’ of what is coming. Brilliant article:
The Thursday market on Gloucester Green is amazing: Chinese, Indian, Italian, Caribbean, Thai, Tibetan, Indonesian food stalls galore. They are excellent and good value.
Zorost: Thanks for sharing this well-written essay.
This paragraph (from that essay) gets at the crux of how modern wokery operates:
Confucius (c. 551-479 BC), would certainly have understood this. Asked at one point in the Analects what he would do as his first and most urgent task if appointed governor, he replies that it would be to “rectify names” of things to correspond to reality. Asked how this could possibly be the most important priority during a period of war and famine, he stresses that, “If names be not correct, language is not in accordance with the truth of things,” and, “If language be not in accordance with the truth of things, [any] affairs cannot be carried on to success.” The mythical first sage kings of China were said to have selected names (名) of things that directly corresponded to actuality (實), but over time these names had been replaced or perverted to such a degree that this was no longer the case, and so people could no longer distinguish true from false or right from wrong; the natural results were alternatively chaos or arbitrary tyranny.

Did J.R.R. Tolkien’s ‘Lord of the Rings’ predict the rise of artificial intelligence?
Lifesite News recently interviewed the authors of a new book titled “Mount Doom: The Prophecy of Tolkien Revealed” Did J.R.R. Tolkien’s ‘Lord of the Rings’ predict the rise of artificial intelligence? . Prior to introducing the authors the first 5 minutes of the interview includes an interview with Tucker Carlson and others on the dangers of AI . We were impressed by the thoroughness of the authors’ research which spanned a period of 10 years but do not have the expertise to critically evaluate their interpretation of the Lord of the Rings. We would be very interested on others thoughts on this interview.
To reinforce the dangers of AI , Sibyl AI The Worlds First Spiritual Guide .was recently released .The link below is an eye opener
