History stopped in 1936

“I remember saying once to Arthur Koestler, ‘History stopped in 1936’, at which he nodded in immediate understanding. We were both thinking of totalitarianism in general, but more particularly of the Spanish civil war. Early in life I have noticed that no event is ever correctly reported in a newspaper, but in Spain, for the first time, I saw newspaper reports which did not bear any relation to the facts, not even the relationship which is implied in an ordinary lie. I saw great battles reported where there had been no fighting, and complete silence where hundreds of men had been killed. I saw troops who had fought bravely denounced as cowards and traitors, and others who had never seen a shot fired hailed as the heroes of imaginary victories; and I saw newspapers in London retailing these lies and eager intellectuals building emotional superstructures over events that had never happened. I saw, in fact, history being written not in terms of what happened but of what ought to have happened according to various ‘party lines’.”

i believe that it was always the burden of watchers/‘analysts’ to assess the situations. but that does not absolve us to do nothing.

just think of Lao Ce. it seems, that u r unable to alter the course. but that is one of the underlying lies of the ‘betrothed’ of power.

‘word has more power than any weapons altogether’

Yes. Great Man History… Great Beasts … Great Bastards all used to be ways of organizing the mess. With digitized access, the details are now available to the rest of us to confront the complexities. There’s always a maid to unravel a puzzle and a hair stylist to push Jezebel out her court window.
P.S. Don’t forget the Communion (Living Histories) of Saints and the immensity of the Little People.

man has to be aware of old, bald, smiling sweepers. they facilitate the pass by the dust from which our cloaks are woven.

i really like the edit pencil in the SE corner of the picture, don’t you?

Yes, I wanted to leave room for you … I thought it could be like a nice picture of you putting your arm around David and walking alongside him and guiding him and he’s listening to you. Then, I thought of my Dad, from Mexico. It’s a very common gesture man-to-man and a macho thing to take a younger man or a friend you have male bonding with and walk alongside like that.

I appreciate the sentiment, but no “Man to man” & “Macho things” please- I’m British…and that’s just not “Cricket” …P.S.- I’m several years the senior, and cranky with it… (A tree saved by another tree)-

‘several years senior’ … LOL!
maybe a few decades, but that is not ‘several’, but only a few moments which passed by

tree looks great, what happened to the camera? duplex lenses?

David is right that we bond through spirits. or walking, as Johnny… or ‘dimpling’ of the face, if that is a valid English expression.

:yum:

i had a good friend, his name was Andrew Walker, great ‘bonder’, already walked away on the Milky Way

was he an atheist? i dunno, his books speak otherwise/manywise. i’ll look after it.
otherwise
i love his books. what is Frank Herbert in sci-fi, Pratchett is in fantasy. both of them exhibited a wide range of traditional knowledge. very wide and deep as i understand it.

I do feel several decades older , in the morning particularly…and I’d been in a Waldorf-(Rudolph Steiner) Kindergarten class for two whole years before you’d finished gestating, so I’m terribly Old and wise!!..

Yeah, he declared himself an Atheist/Humanist, and was lobbying for assisted suicide due to his diagnosis of Dementia…Died of natural causes in the end… That’s not to say his work didn’t contain a fair amount of wisdom :point_left:

Great sharing guys, thanks🙏

Thank you very much for posting this one @David8pies!
