HMRC to be given access to bank accounts for ‘Tax collection’

What could possibly go wrong?

The United States Internal Revenue Service did something similar to me about 15 years ago, though they did not directly debit my bank account. They informed my employer to deduct income taxes from my salary based on zero dependents and they did, to force me to file a tax return. I had refused to file a tax return for several years, though the income tax was deducted from every biweekly paycheck.
They did an audit on my account and determined I owed them money and sent a collection letter. I didn’t contest or file a return to prove I didn’t owe. I sent them a certified bank check for the amount they determined was due. They then sent a letter to my employer advising them freeze my dependent claim at zero. Later when an early voluntary retirement offer with a substantial payout for eliminating four positions came available I said pick me! And left.

Just another step further towards programmable ‘smart’ crypto crapto currency.

My understanding the Government via the Child Maintenance Service can already access a persons bank account. ‘One small step for mankind.’

Wondering if the non-payment of Council Tax will be the next target.
