Just wanted to gloat I just won a 13 CD set of CPE Bach music on Ebay for only $50 including shipping. I am so stoked.
I just got done trawling record stores whenever I was in the Big City for a concert, or went thrifting around home, and NO ONE has CPE. Just his dad.
So I look forward to rocking out with my wig out.

THat concerto is the concerto that I nicknamed āItā. Itās the very concerto I did a little analysis of in Thrice Great Hermeticaā¦ it is an INTENSELY well-crafted study of just two basic ideasā¦ The only problem I have with most performances of the Bachsā harpsicghord concerti, is that they are always performed on small dainty French or Flemish instruments, and not the large powerful German instruments that they would have had access to (JSD and CPE in particular)ā¦ try the early recordings of Spanyi on the BIS label using a large Hass double.

I love those concertos more than any of his other ones, ie vs flute or organ, due to the ability of the harpsichord to play very fast and staccato, almost in a computerlike fashion.
It looks like the ājob lotā of discs I have coming are from 1988 from West Germany from the Capriccio label.
Itās the CPE Chamber Orchestra lead by Hartmutt Haenchen. bok bok.
It has flute sonatas, viola sonatas, symphonies for strings, Berlin symphonies, vocal work, clavichord sonatas (ooo), organ , and oboe, but nothing specifically for harpsichord unfortunately. but it is a great selection!
That is a good set, and the performance of the G Minor Wq 6 3rd Movement is quite fine with an excellent cadenza in just the right place and of just the right kind. The other performances are good. But if you want the best performances of the early harpsichord concerti get Spanyi on the BIS labelā¦ his performance of the massive Wq 12 and its thunderous development in the first movement and the bit of syncopated ājazzā in the 3rd movement are not to be missed.
