If You Can't Beat Them, Join Them?

I have a few trees.

You have a few trees until and unless the powers-that-be manage to steal them, along with everybody else’s assets . . .

Declaring that trees and rivers have rights will be used as cover for corporate interests’ appropriating them so they can be turned into securities, derivatives, and collateral.

Yes we’ve come a long way since the pilgrims landed and the natives had no concept of owning or having land titles for the Earth. The selling of Earth and pushing around of the universe has dire consequences.

… since the subject of trees was brought up.

One of the problems with “if you can’t beat them, join them” is that you really never join them but used while thinking to have joined them. Whoever “them” is, another conundrum!

Bloodlust and thinking that you are the exception has served our adversaries well, will it be humanities undoing?

@Scarmoge Good find. I recall the song from years ago (my buddy loved Rush), but not the lyrics.

THE TREES
Music: Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson
Lyrics: Neil Peart

There is unrest in the Forest
There is trouble with the trees
For the Maples want more sunlight
And the Oaks ignore their pleas.

The trouble with the Maples
(And they’re quite convinced they’re right)
They say the Oaks are just too lofty
And they grab up all the light
But the Oaks can’t help their feelings
If they like the way they’re made
And they wonder why the Maples
Can’t be happy in their shade?

There is trouble in the Forest
And the creatures all have fled
As the Maples scream ‘Oppression!’
And the Oaks, just shake their heads

So the Maples formed a Union
And demanded equal rights
‘The Oaks are just too greedy
We will make them give us light’
Now there’s no more Oak oppression
For they passed a noble law
And the trees are all kept equal
By hatchet,
Axe,
And saw…

Ah, but no, as the subtitle implies debate.

… you are right Sharick … There may be NO debate! … Mea Culpa. or as the kids say, “My Bad!”

@Scarmoge Of course the kids say “My Bad!” --it saves them two syllables.

Perhaps I misunderstood your intent, but maybe “The ABUSE of selling (aka stealing) of the earth and pushing around the universe has dire consequences” would be more precise. Just a thought. Owning land and having private property is biblical. Taking it without consent and/or compensation is not.

We are stewards of earth, not the owners.
You can’t take it with you when you leave…
