… High school “graduates” lack the skills that would make them capable of even minimal performance at the college Freshman level. When you include minimal levels of literacy, lack of basic language skills, non-existent attention spans, lack of social interaction skills, low (if any) reading comprehension, low vocabulary development, smart phone addiction, and last but not least, lack of critical thinking and reasoning skills what do you expect? The vast majority of “high school graduates” have simply been moved through the system with little concern for any kind of learning.
That explains why I don’t recall or remember what I read on this smartphone. That’s a relief, I thought a decline in cognition was the reason.
A neighbor’s grandson is in his first year of an engineering degree at Texas A&M. He had to drop
his calculus class before he flunked out for the semester and retake the class this semester. How he’s doing I don’t know. He was on his junior and high school’s honor role all through school.
He lives at home and does not work as his parents fund his education.

I remember reading long ago about media’s material was geared to a fourth grade education level. If technology is replacing an educated work force, why make more of them?
