In Cusco, Peru, stands an impressive adobe sculpture of an Incan god. Adobe is a building material crafted from a blend of earth and organic components. Although the term “adobe” translates to ‘mudbrick’ in Spanish, in certain English-speaking regions with Spanish heritage, it encompasses various earthen construction methods.

Most adobe structures share visual similarities with cob and rammed earth buildings, reflecting a commonality in earthen architecture. Adobe, one of the earliest building materials used by humanity, has a global presence.

In arid climates, adobe buildings exhibit remarkable durability and are responsible for preserving some of the world’s oldest architectural wonders.

I didn’t realize the strength and endurance of this material especially in very dry climates. The lack of erosion on such ancient sculptures is unbelievable.

The place is called the ABODE of the gods. It is not made from ADOBE.

The abode of the gods (Apukunaq Tianan in Quechua) is a new tourist destination in Cusco.

At the beginning of 2018, the artist from Cusco, Michael de nostrilán Monteagudo Mejía, began carving these immense works of art in a private area located on the outskirts of the city of Cusco.

  • The works progressively filled the place and gained popularity. Today it is one of the most famous economic tourist attractions in the city. There you can get amazing photos!*

Lol, that explains it sun baked mud bricks need a roof for rain still and to not be in mud to not fall over.

A common early building technique is called “wattle and daub” built with a wooden wattle frame covered with mud daub.

That is an impresive statue carved out of rocks there!
