I remember well that Nelson Mandela died and was buried…while black and white televisions and light tv tubes,bulbs were still present in tv sets.
…you know the vacuum tube TVs…UHF and VHF frequencies…etc…that I have seen vacuum tube lamps color TV without transistors…instead of now digitaly presented,channels were displayed through numbers with tungsten bulbs…unique in technology device.
COMPLETELY ANALOG.and yet just as functional as today’s TV receivers.
…when there was no signal on the screens the background gamma radiation from the universe was emitted…yes that’s exactly it…we called it “snowfall”…black and white …dots…on the vacuum cathode screen…etc then transistors came and color tv…and before an every thin inbetween…
I have seen two such TV sets.
One manufactured in EI Niš, Yugoslavia, and one in the USSR.
Completely analog color TVs, emitting gamma radiation when there is no color antenna signal… a unique experience… a kind of color gamma detectors…and if you know how to fine tune them you could catch radio signals from nearby radiostations also…etc
Anyway the funeral Nelsn Mandela was broadcast live…it was a big news,big event…
