Irish Fuel protests up again 31st August

The typical tractor use in Ireland, such as the 8R 340 has a diesel fuel tank with a capacity of 727 litres. 3 months ago it cost 3100 euro to fill and now is costing 4350 euro to fill. In Jan 2020 for reference this was 1400 euro to fill. Rated spec for fuel usage ranges between 60 and 65 litres per hour of operation. That’s roughly between 100 and 120 hours usage. Which means in peak time silage cutting / collection, harvest or tilling at say 60 hours per week (often higher) this is two weeks worth of operation. If invoiced for fuel (which is a diminishing contract term), on a 30 day nett basis, of a total 9,000 euro per month (or two usage / fill cycles per month. This is making even neutral cashflow nigh impossible especially for contractors, which form the bulk of the tractor fleet in the country given the high cost of tractors and their machinery today. The contractors and secondarily the farmers are reaching a financial breaking point. But this is EU poiicy to remove both farming and fishing activity from the EU. Fishing fleet is in an even worse position being only allowed to go to sea for 27 days per year now. Note the glee of UVDL’s physiognomy dejanira on X: "🚨⚠️La Comisión Europea ya no disimula su plan de DESTRUIR al sector primario europeo⚠️ ⚠️Von der Leyen ahora se carga la pesca al permitir faenar solo 27 días al año. Una reducción del 79% ⚠️Mientras les quita a nuestros pescadores el 79 % de los días de pesca, está" / X
